RIP Paul Brodek

I learned from a post on Classic Rendezvous that Paul Brodek — pcb — died July 21 from glioblastoma. He will be sorely missed.

bikemig 07-25-22 02:55 PM

He will be sorely missed. I enjoyed reading his posts particularly when he wrote about his bikes. Plus there are few C&V members who knew as much about vintage Fuji bikes as pcb . I believe (and I could be mistaken) that he worked for Fuji for a while. He certainly had a wealth of knowledge that was always appreciated. That is sad news.

non-fixie 07-25-22 03:31 PM

Dang! Only thirty seconds ago I was re-reading his post from two years ago about the coolest shoes ever!

I have always enjoyed his posts on this forum. There's also an interview with him online somewhere about the demise of SunTour, which I really enjoyed listening to.

RIP, Paul.

Oh, and thanks for the pictures of those shoes:

This is very sad. He did work at Fuji for some time and had some great stories about living and working in the bike industry in Japan back in the day. I also lived there so enjoyed his posts about it.

So sad. I had the pleasure to meet and ride w Paul a couple times. Great guy with a wealth of knowledge. RIP Paul.

It’s a sad day in cycling when someone so passionate about the hobby passes.

Paul’s posts where always meaningful and his neat fisheye profile picture always caught my eye.

I wish his wife and family all the best.

Here’s a link to the obituary:

I always enjoyed reading Paul’s posts and bought a bunch of swell parts from him over the years. RIP to a good man.

billytwosheds 07-25-22 04:42 PM

He always had something useful and positive to share. His fisheye profile picture was cool, too. RIP

Kilroy1988 07-25-22 04:57 PM

Dangit,

Really sorry to hear about this and my condolences to his family and friends, whoever among them may wander into this thread... I also enjoyed his posts and thought he had really great taste in bicycles!

He was a nice guy that was always wiling to share his vast amount of information and experience. I have missed seeing him, and he will be missed.

And he also worked at Suntour USA as Suntour was collapsing.

This is so sad. RIP Paul. He was one of the folks that made this place so great.

nesteel 07-25-22 06:55 PM

This is disappointing. Very knowledgeable person, always seemed happy to share his experience with this forum.

so sad. my mom passed several years ago from glioblastoma; comes quick and the end is fast. you'll be missed Paul.

mkeller234 07-25-22 07:14 PM

Sorry to read this. RIP. I will miss his contributions.

In the years I’ve spent on the forums, a few faces have disappeared and left me wondering what became of them. Best wishes to Paul’s family.

jdawginsc 07-25-22 07:28 PM

One of my favorite posters. Was just reading his post about Japanese small scale frame builders.

His stories will missed a ton...

bark_eater 07-25-22 07:31 PM

Any one know if he drove VW microbus?

clubman 07-25-22 07:47 PM

Rubber to the road Paul. Loved the contributions and avatar too! :thumb:

Paul was a great resource and was always ready with a great story to convey the desired info. His insights into the later years at SunTour were fascinating.
For those who are interested, Diane Jenks did an interview with him on her Outspoken Cyclist podcast:

He will be missed.

Ha! No, I don't think so. I was at his house twice, and I would have made a mental note of something like that. One of those times, he showed me his garage full of bikes. His other hobby combined cameras and photography. His flickr page had so many great bikes, but those were just the ones that were done and ready for "prime time."

He was a great guy. I enjoyed exchanging emails, trading stories, and talking bikes.

merziac 07-25-22 10:21 PM

Very sad news, irreplaceable cycling personality, stalwart et al.

Damnit, was thinking about calling him recently, he didn't respond to a text awhile back and I knew he had been very sick.

RIP and Godspeed my friend.

dddd 07-25-22 10:53 PM

Sad news. I'd recently noticed his absence here and had been wondering, hoping for the best and not knowing he'd been sick.

I'm remembering his once posting to the CR List if I recall, showed a photo of some freewheel sprockets, offering the lot to the first person who could identify what were Suntour MicroLite cogs.
I still have them. Great guy, he even paid the shipping!

Over many years of reading C&V I was always happy to see a post from Paul. It was sure to be informative, useful, entertaining. So much kindness and knowledge. RIP.

pastorbobnlnh 07-26-22 05:43 AM

A super C&Ver, who shared his knowledge with generosity, wit, kindness, and good humor. Thank you for 12+ years of great contributions with every post. You will be missed.
