I am with Merziac on this - but metric - 25 to 40 mm compression is what to look for.

Maybe I do not understand correctly some of the posts above - it seems like some say there are no chrome Silcas that you can fit a Campagnolo head to?

I have never seen a chrome Silca that a Campagnolo head does not fit. I have four or five chrome Silcas and I have Campag heads on all of them.

Huh? You ARE looking for "functional" but WON'T be using it to pump up your tires? Um, what other function is there (except to ward off potential dog bites....)?

And +1 on post # 15; I recall having two chrome Imperos with the Campy end.

I'm curious about this as well. There appear to be different models of Silca pumps? Can someone summarize them, and which one accept Campy heads, and which don't? Do the Campy heads add appreciably to the overall pump dimensions?

I've got a chrome Silca pump that changing the head on does not seem possible. It is molded into the lower section.

I have never seen a Campy head chrome one on the ground and I keep an eye out for them as well as any longer ones.

They seem to be harder to find although the PDX megaseller on efbay has several of them right now for $140-$199 in various sizes except the one needed here as far as I can tell. :foo:

So if I'm putting this information together correctly, for a pump to fit where I want it, I'm looking at an uncompressed length of about 22.5", and if I use a Campy head, maybe 22 inches, or in centimeters, about 56 - 57 CM, minus about a 1 CM if I use a Campy head?

Um.... maybe, I want them as tight as they can be if they are on the TT so they don't fall off and don't want to use a strap because that's fugly. :twitchy:

You may really need to have one in hand to use as a sizer to get this right. ;)

I spent quite a bit of time on there last night trying to cypher it out and trying to justify one of the big chrome ones for myself, not there yet and shouldn't go there but....

I'll circle back and drill down some more, are you really prepared to step up that far?

Maybe not $200 just yet. Son's college starts in two weeks...I've got a standing eBay search, I'll just keep a lookout. Mostly I was curious about what size I should be hunting for. But thanks!

Ok, I'm going to try and do a hunt and peck with a frame your size, I have few shorter pumps too that I might be able to figure it out with. :foo:

Looks like you might get off for only $140-$160 if he had you size. :roflmao2:

Well Merziac and smd4,
I have a chrome one here with the hard to find Campy head, but it is 21" uncompressed and it has Colnago embossed on the outside of the pump. I also have a longer one in either blue or black that could be given the chrome paint treatment of the Testors spray cans that would fir the request. Lemme know, Smiles, MH

smd4 08-04-22 12:25 PM

Thanks for the kind offer, MH, but I will have to decline.

it gets treacherous to decode the size you need.
Early frame fit pumps did not have a marked size.
A bit later there was one heat embossed in the well of the handle.
on a 56cm frame as measured center to top, 1" top tube, I use a 50 as marked by Silica. I use a steel Campagnolo pump head.
The main body is 413mm from end to end including collar and to the base where the rubber washer goes.
The Overall uncompressed rubber end face to top of the pump handle when off the bike 51.2cm
Where did the 50 arrive from?

Problem is no one seems to measure these uniformly, possibly even Silca way back.

Sounds like I may have to take a risk. Which is fine--seems if it's wrong, I can easily re-sell it.

Hard to say but you have our interest if you are willing to help. NOS with shopwear from the highest priced seller on efbay and the planet is around $140-$199 and shipping would push it a whole other light year away.

Normal sellers have them for maybe $50-$80 with and without Campy head, chrome.
