1985 Shogun 800
1985 Shogun 800
Tange 2 frame, R400 8sp indexed shifters, Claris RD, Innicycle headset, IRD levers and Tektro 539 brakes
I was going to powdercoat it, but I bought a Bob Jackson and used up my bike funds. I also really liked the raw stripped frame but rust. So I blued it. The black oxide still shows all the frame work and the brazing sorta functions as lug lining. I'm not really into blacked out bikes, but I like the imperfectness of the blueing. Undecided on the wheel logos.

Here's an old pic of what I had. Great riding bike, done several centuries on it.

As I was building my Tommasini, I realized I had a problem and this one couldn't be white anymore.

Stripped

I wouldn't call that blacked-out. It's more steampunk than anything else, and a nice "sneak peek" tribute to the framebuilder(s).
When I read "blacked out", I think of those soul-less carbon clones clogging the showrooms today. This is, quite the contrary, a bicycle.

I like it, a lot!
Did you clear coat the frame and fork?
Definitely lose the rim decals.

Forgive me if I'm preaching to the choir. You will have to keep it well oiled or waxed preferably oiled regularly as wax will give a false sense of security with bluing. Especially since the frame isn't a high mirror polish it will be very susceptible to rust. They do make matte clear coats.
