1979 Chrome Panasonic DX-2000 Dura Ace Upgrade
Just finished upgrading my 1979 Panasonic DX2000 to all period correct Dura Ace Ex 7200 era parts including bar end shifters. Let me know what you think.

Dura Ace upgrade
P.S. the last piece of the puzzle is a 7200 EX 26.6 seatpost. I have found plenty of 27.0 and 27.2 and even 26.8 but only one 26.6 and i lost the auction. Any help would be appreciated

I debated getting the dura ace levers and I passed on a NOS lever and caliper set. I decided to keep the SLRs because I like Aero levers better. I may upgrade eventually but for now it is function over form.

I kind of like them because they are original 80s Panasonic Panaracers so they fit the brand. Came with the wheel set and are just as gummy and intact as new. pretty amazing actually.

I am way ahead of you. I am waiting on my bike shop to finish building my new wheel set with Dura ace 7200 uniglide hubs and I found this cassette to go with it,,

Maybe, or a color sidewall -- red? I would have humorously suggested silverwall -- but -- wait a minute -- wasn't there such a thing in the 1970's? Like a silver annular reflective sidewall?

yeah it took a while.. I decided on the first gen brakes from 73-78 because I like the look better than the second gen. The front derailleur came from japan. The head set was difficult to find as well and I am still looking for a seat post. But I think it came together really well.

silver wall would be sick. I have been looking for those. I am partial to the Panaracer brand as I like to keep the bike all japanese and panasonic if possible.

Great looking bike. Don’t see too many with such a complete DA group from that era. Good luck with the seatpost; one will turn up. Gumwalls look fine. Don’t go red. It’s not a circus bike.

appreciate it. I do like the gumwalls. They are vintage tires that fit the era. Raised center bead that Panaracer doesn't even make anymore. As for the seatpost. I just found one an immediately bought it off ebay. so the only thing that isnt dura ace are the brake levers and I kept the SLR because I prefer Aero levers. Maybe one day I will complete the build with the Non Aero levers, but for now I think it looks great.

I have DA 7402 levers with like-new hoods. I know they won’t last forever, so I saved an eBay search maybe three years ago. Wasn’t in a rush. A few months ago a NOS set came up, and I grabbed them right away. It pays to have time on your side when your not in a rush to get something.

Precisely. Although sometimes eBay interprets the search terms a little broadly, so some “hits” may seem a little odd, and you may get more alerts than you expected. But better too many than to miss out.
