Oh man, great job Dad, fantastic, love it when this happens!

I was hoping you got this when it seemed like you were "out of the office" the other day getting the other new acquisition.

Size discount and top tube dent discount. Should be a capable rider once given a full rebuild.

The top tube dent is somehow almost non noticable when you stand next to it and 25" is my boys size. The clincher set has Phil wood hubs and the tubulars are the factory issue. The only thing that looks like a replacement is the universal side pulls. The serial is e72144 so I'm guessing it's a 72. I dropped it at his house after taking a spin on the clinchers. The brooks pro is awesome and the Phil woods roll like zero friction. The campy derailleurs are just as lousy as the ones I have. All in all a killer bike with room for significant tires. Aaron won't do fenders and a dynamo like I would do but it's his bike and it's excellent!

Cool but I prefer suntour....

No downside anywhere here, period.

Fantastic price, great shape for the most part, right size, win, win, win, win, win, all day long.

Put me on the long or short list if this ever needs to get moved along.

The whole ride home I was wondering how he was going to convince his girl. Turns out he had the job done by the time I got home.

@52telecaster

So, scrub, polish and overhaul up to the son?

I'm such nut about this that I would have gotten the top layer off to really assess for myself before handing it over.

He is a better and more meticulous mechanic than I am every day of the week. Plus he had a pretty severe leg break about a month ago and this will give him something to do at home while he is on the knee scooter.

There has been a deluge of cool bikes in Peoria, and they are all landing in one place!
Jealous?

Congrats on the shiny Schwinn, and what a cool thing that your son is into this stuff!

I am resolved to ride the rest of the year. No more buying bikes. It's just that when something cool shows up I'm pretty weak. This comes from my gf never saying no to another bike. I blame her.

It's all about proper, sensible selection, compatibility and lucky stars.

ms. merziac and I have been together for 35 years, married 31 in Oct.

Lucky doesn't even begin to cover it.

Good plan.

I bought a bag of 10 or a dozen several years ago then some "pump blood" from Silca awhile back, used mineral oil before and now don't replace every seal without cleaning and lubing to see how they do but I've never not been able to make one work way better and plenty usable that can always get you home.

Ooh, he's going to need a triplizer for that, too. Or maybe not yet--he's still young. I will do my best to wait him out.

I showed him the site. I also offered a t.a. cyclotourost and rings for a halfstep and granny but he is going to ride for a while with the stock gearing. He won't be riding at all for another 6 weeks with the broken leg but I told him the grand record and paramount are gonna do some rides together. If I find some hills I should be able to convince him to get lower gears. I even offered suntour rear mech.

Back when we had LBS, who didn’t have one with a Chrome Paramount on the wall? I’m with your son—stock gears—too cool.

Sorry to hear about the break, but this is just what he needed then. 👌 I'm not a big Paramount nut, but that one's pretty nice. 😎

Such a great find and such a great price. Congratulations to its new owner. I’ve got a 72 chrome Paramount with a small nearly unnoticeable dent in the top tube too. I never even think about the dent and nobody seems to notice when they’re complimenting the bike, which is often. Let your son know that the red Phil script on the hubs is not durable and comes off really easily with just the wipe of a rag, best to work around the lettering if he wishes to keep it. Awesome hubs!
