Here's a link for shifter cables @$8.US for 10

It has been a while since I've purchased shift cables. And, I don't remember having any issues with the old Nuovo Record shifters.

I did have to grind down the ends for using with my 11-speed Campy shifters.

I have a little diamond grinder from Harbor Freight (chainsaw sharpener) that I use for gently reducing something like the shifter cable slightly. I've found it to be quite handy, even if it doesn't have a tool rest.

I usually buy in bulk.
I only purchase stainless now.

Campy shift Cables: $2.80 each for 10 pack.

Shimano (oversized) shift cables: $0.90 each for 10 pack.

Which shifter cables will fit (the barrel end)?

Who makes good cables these days?

Late to the party as usual
Fibrax make a gear cable that works just fine with Campagnolo , Simplex levers with the sligthly smaller than Shimano end .
NO filing needed !
I bought a boxfull a while back ( 100 )
The Fibrax number for a box is FCG3102
If you can find a stockist they would have singles ?

FWIW, I've converted standard "in-line barrel" cable ends to functional Huret disc-type cable ends by squeezing the barrel in a vise until it fits into the slot on the Huret shifter. Often, a little touch-up with a file is needed to get the proper fit. It seldom takes more than a couple of minutes altogether to modify the cable end.

I presume that, eventually, any of us needing a Huret-style cable will need to do that. :thumb:

My thanks to everyone.

One issue I'm having with the links you've helpfully provided is I do not use ebay, at all.

AliExpress and sometimes even Amazon have the same sellers/items

With your help, I bought a kit via Amazon. It has all 4 cables (2 brake & 2 shifter), for $30. It seems steep but the cables would otherwise be $10 each, so I "saved" $10.

The kit comes with two different types of housing - LEX-SL L3 Cable Housing - LEX Reinforced, L3 Slick Lubed Liner and CGX L3 Low Compression Housing - CGX Reinforced, L3 Slick Lubed Liner, BLACK color.

I'll need an engineering PhD to understand the difference and figure out which housing goes where. :)

I can’t help you with the housing nomenclature from that particular vendor, but I can’t recommend compressionless brake housing highly enough.

Any port in a storm?
Last cable set I bought was this one. It came with stainless cables and really decent shift housing. All the housing brake and shift was lined. for 10 bucks you could do worse.
