I have feelings about the "Hand-Hammered" look in fenders and other things

Interestingly a few decades after those seemingly primitive, but beautiful in their own way, tri-motors took to the sky’s the vaunted A-12s and SR-71s also featured corrugated skin panels to assist in heat dissipation and expansion and contraction. I suspect some very large hydraulic hammers beat these into submission

Somewhere in all the documentaries and books I seen on WWII there are pics and even I believe film of German paratroopers riding on the wings of Fokker Tri-motors.

Oh man, we switched to induction this year and it is fantastic. Micro level adjustment, even heat. Cast iron rules on it.

While late to this thread (due to the passing of Tropical Storm Nicole), I've enjoyed it on so many different levels: Beginning with the observations about the OP's tone and approach, to the comparisons with other hammered products, and shaped metal which offers a different aesthetic, functionality, and other characteristics when compared to smooth metal.
As I read through the more than 100 posts, I kept thinking about the dimples on a golf ball and their effect on aerodynamics. I'm glad majmt helped with that connection.
Which got me to thinking:
Gold aero bikes actually go the fastest.
I need to hammer my Lotus Super Pro Aero frame and fork and install hammered fenders! Just think of how fast it will fly!

The only problem might be--- that some C&Vers are convinced my brake levers are in the wrong position.

I have one of these that is a family heirloom, and I looked it up a few years ago to find that it is not hammered, but cast. I'd never questioned it because my dad always said it was hand-hammered. I supposed somebody could have hammered the mold, but nobody took a hammer to the actual iron. Still very cool, but these fall into the faux category.

It's the casting mold in this case that's hand hammered, most likely an aluminum pan they used to make the original mold

Yeah, I felt pretty silly when I finally looked it up. I've learned over the years to google almost everything my dad has ever told me, because half of it is wrong! The other half is the best advice you could hope for. One of my dad's classic sayings was, "Son, the point is not to sweep the driveway; the point is to get the driveway clean." Took me a decade or so to fully appreciate that one.
