In my defense, I did run a search on "flying squirrel mountain bike", only to find that nearly every state in the US has an MTB _trail_ called "Flying Squirrel".

Where did the “Bullmoose” moniker come from, anyway? I bought my first mountain bike in 1988 or so and don’t remember too many bikes on the floor with these bars. When did they fall out of favor?
And those VO bars? Too much sweep, not enough straight…

This one had me baffled for a minute but I think he’s hiding a set of SRAM XO trigger shifters under the original XT thumbies. Well played with the length of housing joining the thumbies.

The bike is actually a 25th Anniversary Stumpjumper Classic. They reissued 250 of them in 2007. The Tange frame and even the tires were produced as they were in 1982 from the original jigs and molds; however, they used top notch drive train and brake components of 2007. Dave invited entry of vintage mountain bikes for this year’s Cino but, though this bike qualified as “keeper of the flame”, it had those pesky and reliable XO shifters that are not really in the spirit of Cino. I scrounged up some old thumbies but could not bring myself to making the switch and with help from friends at my LBS, we came up with a ridiculous deception. I found that a bit of scofflaw can be compensated with bribery and stupid humor and was able to slip this by inspection and get the stamp.

So much for bringing up the Granola Bullmoose. Velo-Orange does have a bullmoose, a collab between Fairweather and Nitto. Sadly, it's been out of stock since the plague hit. Stoopid plague.
I just sold my one bullmoose-equipped bike, a 1985ish KHS Montana, dark blue with an actual biplane fork. It was just sitting in the garage, so it's better off being ridden, right? Right?

^^^^^ First shot is a slingshot, not a bull-moose. And of course, this being BF / C&V, "there's a thread for that".... Slingshot Stems . Still, a sharp bike, right down to the (not actually used, I hope) water bottle, and chain/bell co-ordination.
I doubt it "slipped by". At first glance of the photo, the triggers are hard to miss, so the card is well-deserved. No doubt they appreciated the effort and gesture with the thumbies. Personally, I would have commissioned the thumbies and left the triggers at home. But that's just me; thumbies, like a nice bull-moose or slingshot, are a "tick all the boxes" item for me.

Top picture is as used. Wifey loves the bike. Yes a slingshot stem was added when I realized my bullmoose stem was 21.1 and not the 22mil required for the fork( forehead slap) that bells ring is really something 🤌🏻

I agree regarding the preference for friction thumbies. When I picked this up a few years ago, I was planning to scrounge for some old Suntour friction thumb shifters but the XO shifters are original to the anniversary build, work perfectly, and I got used to them. So, why switch? This bike is a gem, ironically, I’m going to keep as it was originally issued in 2007 even though the original that it commemorates had thumb shifters. The build was well executed and it’s a very nice ride as-is. There were only 250 of these made and I’d bet that many of them have been stripped of the components.

Garbage picked the frame to go with the set of handlebars (Spec branded, by Nitto) that I found several years ago. I've been on the lookout for a cheap lugged one, but when I saw the rear dropouts, I leapt on it.

The frame came with a 2nd generation "Specialized" (Judy) suspension fork. I'm still trying to find someone who has the stanchion-separating tool so I can service it properly.

I just picked up a Montare also. I see your frame has dual water bottle mounts on the downtube. I have one on the downtube and one on the seat tube. I think it's because you have a larger frame. I wish I had those bullmoose bars
