Hey you lovely lot,

I am in the process of "silvering-up" my trusty trekking bike (PUCH Clubman, local brand) and want to get rid of the black "groupset" parts I still have on my bike.
Currently I use a 9sp Acera rear derailleur for the 10sp 11-34 cassette. Shifting works like a treat (downtube friction, dia compe) but i want it silver-fied.
Can anyone reccomend a derailleur in silver that would fit the rando aesthetic?

indexing wont be an issue, since i went friction - The silver deore looks good. Anyone knows what type that is? (second right, upper "row")

I don't know that some of those silver 80s derailleurs will work across a 10 speed block... not that I've tried.

If you're going Shimano- the M700 deer head or MT-60 as pictured above. MT-60 Deore II and M650 Deore DX are pretty sweet. Or if you're looking for "modern" Shimano- I guess the last silver shiny one would be the 6603 Ultegra or the 7803 Dura Ace- but both of those are pretty pricy and hard to find.

If you're going Suntour - the silver one to get, I'd guess- the Suntour XC 6300. (this one looks pretty slick: https://www.ebay.com/itm/30465560259...Bk9SR_am56mXYQ) I don't know that any of the older models like V-GT Luxe or Cyclone will take a 34 or have the range for a 10 speed cog set.

Then, you could find either the Microshift or the SunXCD branded ones- those are pretty cool- those are modern- the Microshift is about 1/3 the price.

I'm fond of the RD-M650 Deore DX rear derailleur. Shimano docs say max rear cog 32t with the long cage version, but I've come across multiple examples of people running with a 34t successfully.

Oops, never mind, it will only shift across the width of a 7 speed cassette.

This one looks INCREDIBLE! Doubt I can get my hands on that for a reasonable amount of money. Plus I am afraid it would look out of place with all the other "non period correct" stuff i got going on .

Edit2: File the stop down to shift 8 gears - I've done it and it works on an 8 speed cassette.

I have used a Shimano 105 5500 GS thru a 5700 GS for both 9 speed and 10 speed.

If you want an old-school blocky design aesthetic, then anything 6-7-8 speed Deore from 550 series on up will do the trick.
Some are shinier than others. Low mileage and NOS examples abound, and yes, they will happily shift across a 10 speed freehub.
Side note: I know you are friction shifting, but said RD will also index with anything Shimano from 6-7-8-9-10 speed groups except the infamous DA 740X.

I see on the Sheldon Brown Crib Sheet a Shimano 10-speed block is 37.5mm wide.

A Huret Duo-Par Eco will swing that far and has aesthetic out the wazoo. This was Frank Berto's top shifting rear derailleur prior to the '85 Dura Ace.

The Titane model has even higher zoot but of course is a dull gray color, being titanium.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I found a Shimano STX MC34 on our local "craigslist" and went and got it. The optics are cool, but I am afraid i need to replace the jockey wheels. Do any of you know what kind i would need for that?

I got me a 105 5500, but had to install a "road link" to clear a 34 teeth cassette. how did you manage to clear the biggest sprocket? (Assuming it's a 34).

They are both 36t large cogs. The Zunow was 12-36 9 speed and the Centurion is a 11-36 10 speed

And you were able to use them "as is" ? I wound in the B-screw all the way but the 34 tooth sprocket still rubbed on the upper pulley wheel.

If you have a parts bin most jockey wheels from any other Shimano indexing derailleur should work--the floating unit up top and the regular one at the bottom. They're super-cheap brand new online, too. STX is a nice derailleur btw, have used it on a few builds.
