I love this ad. The photo is great. You just know the guy is wearing tube socks.

Great ad , love the theme. How to ride a bike in inappropriate clothing.....been there , done that! I give him about a mile before that pant leg gets tangled in the chain ring , or the shoestring gets caught in the FD. Don't ask me how I learned this stuff. At the very least he will have grease on those great looking pants!

I don't know--I just lifted the image from an ebay listing. But I'm going to guess it's from 1970. Maybe 1969 or 1971. I hope I won't be too embarrassed when someone with research skills comes up with the actual answer.

"French craftsmen recognized for their European superiority" -- It makes no damn sense. It compels me though.

The rider/model looks a bit cramped on the small frame. So much for French fit.

Notice the not-so-subtle "fully lugged" dig at Schwinn et al.

So am I correct in thinking this is a model 620? Unfortunately, his right pants leg blocks our view of the rear stays and whether or not they are chromed. But I see basic Simplex Prestige shifters and a cottered 3-pin crankset and Mafacs, as well as what appears to be brazed-on pump pegs and rear brake cable housing stops. And surely those are 27 x 1 1/4-in tires on possibly steel rims laced to high flange Normandy Sport hubs.
He's a grown-up riding a bike in the '70s; had he been a teenager like me, he would have gone with the more suitable high school gym shorts, knee-length tube socks with stripes at the top, running shoes and gym class t-shirt my friends and I all rode in c.1976. It must be a new bike - no sign of the inevitable Pletscher rack ...
