I honestly have no idea. Some of the experts here may know but if you strike out with this single pic then additional pics of the lugs (seat cluster, head tube, fork crown) and dropouts could provide help. Any idea what the serial number is? I can't really make it out. S/Ns sometimes help too.

Like tricky, I have no clue - although...what's the diameter of the downtube? The clamp on the cable stop looks like it may have been intended for a slightly larger tube - which has me wondering it it has metric-sized tubing.

Those don't look like OEM perforations, and it doesn't look like original paint either. The key to this puzzle lies elsewhere.

weird, that's what that is: never seen anything like that done on any BB shell before, but there IS a serial number, just too filled in (with re-paint) and too fuzzy a pic to read it...but kind of unlikely to be a home-brew frame with so many digits.
The also-too-fuzzy pic of the headlugs looks like those MIGHT be Japanese lugs that look "inspired" by the Prugnat type 62D but then again they might be genuine Prugnats (need a sharper pic).
Strange that this has zero braze-ons, not even shifter bosses, but forkcrown looks to be from a more recent vintage (recessed brakebolt? maybe: cannot tell)
Please ask "friend" to go back and take more, and better, pix.

Jokes aside, the SN suggests that this may not be all that custom - someone might have just played sillium drillium with the bottom bracket before the paint job. Granted, the shotback stays and Prugnat lugs set it apart from the crowd, but can a production frame really be put out of contention with this little to go on?

Hello there, my name is Levi, I'm from the philippines, I just bought a 2nd hand mixte which I am currently getting repainted, when the paint was stripped off, we saw a 4 digit serial number with and upside down PDS letters that is located a half inch off from the numbers.. I am on a journey in finding out what the brand of the frame is through small clues, at first I looked at mixte bikes with the same detail design which I found similar on a Maruishi and Lotus challenger xs, on my research, Lotus was a brand that hired maruishi or should I say collaborated to be one of their producers..
although none of the patterns of serial numbers of Maruishi and Lotus' match a PDS (3 letter) and 4 digit numbers..
1 more clue is that the frame has BOCAMA Lugs which from other articles or forums were made in france and used for classic italian frames from the late 70's and early 80's..

the japanese (maruishi) design and origin of the lugs does not match at all..

I found this one thread on a forum where someone mentioned a Holdsworth mixte with a serial number PDS 7272, I went on to check for holdsworth serial numbers and I found a forum where some Holdsworth owners are recording data of Holdsworth bikes that are still out there by submitting the serial number.. it is stated there that a 4 digit number refers to frames that were customized built in the 70's but non of the serial numbers have letters on them.. and I sent them a photo of my serial number to verify if the frame that I have could actually be a Holdsworth, some one aswered the day after and confirmed that it was not..

I also posted the photo of the serial number of my frame in a classic japanese bike group, one commented that accourding to the threading of the frame, he believes it to be of french made..



So far my only clues are:

1. PDS 1654
2. Bocama lugs
3. French threading
4. Maruishi/Lotus challenger xs mixte design

Nope, in many cases a six-pointed star is just another star with nothing to do with David, Judaism or Israel. I actually have antique Christmas ornaments with such stars and am reasonably sure there was no confusion between those two "Wintertime Holidays" when these were made (in Germany as well as the USA).
We have seen the same star as a stamp on certain Schwinn frames (probably was one of several builder's marks) plus similar as a Police registration/license marking for the city of Berkeley, Calif. They don't stamp them anymore but did as late as the 1970s. Almost forgot: the many, many six-pointed stars used on many models of the Malvern Star frames from Australia...more than on the flag!
But this is the first time I have seen a BB shell (socket) with a six-pointed star piercing: the shell also has something on the main body which might indicate the brand but can't make it out not the right size for "CINELLI" is it?
Can @hazetguy give us an ID of that red shell?
