Raleigh 20, non folder....
Going to pick one up Monday. 3 speed and I think with the taller skinnier wheels. I have been jonesing for a minivelo but this might do the trick. Aw hubs and all original pretty much. Pics to come and it's plenty rough. Any advice is welcome.

Morphed into the Shopper I believe. The Twenty was a better build.

Already considering a wheel build. If 451 rims they are probably 28 spoke?

in planning your build/alterations one thing to be aware of on these is that the bottom bracket shell is seventy-six millimeter in width

Raleigh Twenty owner here. Good luck, have fun. Solid ride. If your wrenches don't fit it is probably British Whitworth size. I ordered a 17/32(?) for the lug nuts.Thread "Love of Three speeds" may be of some help.

I've played a bunch with regular size three speeds and love aw hubs but the 20 is a first for me. Pretty excited about the 451 wheel size. I have a decent pair of 20x 1 3/8 tires and look forward to building wheels for it.

What rims do you recommend, I was thinking of going with cr18s once I confirm the spoke count.

are the ones I chose. Not many available during the Covid problem s with supply. I went with the black rims, silver brake wall.
just so no confusion, I have a folder. My friends shopper is the purple one.

Not much available at all right now. I have a pair of nice 451 wheels but they are 32 hole or I would replace one for the rear. I do have a 36 hole aw I could use and just buy 36 hole rims but I'd like to use the original hub.

I guess I got lucky with the available rims matching the 79 hubs.
Alert: with CR18 it is not a plug an play switch. The spoke lengths don’t match.

I was wondering what trick you were referring to, until Neal cleared that up.

Picked it up today and the spoke counts are 40 on the hub and 32 in front. Just like a Raleigh sport. I guess I'll be using a 36 hole hub to build the new wheel in back and am free to use a 32 hole Dyno hub in front. The bike is rough but not as bad as it could have been. Love the built in kick stand.

I'm liking that color.
The progressive dies used to create those lap joints used in lieu of lugs must have been a bit of tool-making genius. I haven't paid much attention to Twenties and hadn't noticed that detail before. Very cool.
