What I Did On My Winter Vacation

Back in 2021, I bought a semi-basketcase 1982 Lotus Supreme...

I spent a bit of time and too much money restoring it pretty close to the original spec, including tubular tires, but not including the Dyna Drive pedals.

Since then, I found the old "Lotus Bikes" pages and discovered that the Supreme originally came with sewn-on leather bar wrap. I HAD TO try that! So I bought a kit from Velobitz on Ebay. It includes everthing you need, and clear instructions, but I also watched a couple videos.

It's a tedious process! If you're detail-oriented, though, it's not so bad. Just repetitious and fiddly. Anyway, here's the finished result!

Now that it's all done, I'm ITCHING to ride and try it out, but it's been raining and it's supposed to rain all week!

Love the wrap. Had an ancestral version on my Bianchi Randonneur and loved it.

Damn that looks good. I’m looking forward to seeing the bike (and bar tape) on a ride.

It's gotta stop raining first!

I remember you posting this bike in one of the big Lotus threads when I was doing a dive on them.

Great job on the handlebar, and I can't possibly comment on the handlebar without mentioning the gorgeous SR Royal Extra Super Light stem. Excellence.

I'm also itchy as well...8-10" of snow all over the ground and not really going away...
