Somebody took a mig welding art class and then applied it to a bike. As long as the head tube isn't actually cracked, it is a pretty cool looking bike. I agree, some supports under the racks are necessary to make it practical, and with the right curves they could even add to the aesthetic.

This could be a Rat Rod bike winter build off bike. There is a whole lot of building material in the skip on the other side of the fence. Bikes should be about having fun. Someone is having fun.

The shifters are stem shifters that have been welded to the extra top tube.

Don't know my Schwinns. First gen Positron used 2 cables for back and forth. Second gen Positron II used a single rigid cable like a mower throttle. All the indexing was in the RD. FFS (Front Freewheel System) was a separate thing made in both 1 pc and 3 pc cranks. They often showed up together, but by no means were required to, and bikes often will have one without the other.

I remember first seeing the 2 cable Positron on an old Volkscycle bike and being extremely confused.
