Cecil Behringer Restoration

I bought this mid 70’s Behringer Custom from francophile back in August and took my time restoring it over the last few months with the help of my buddy. francophile was an awesome seller and I’m grateful he trusted me as the next steward of this American classic.

We completely broke it down, buffed the frame and components, and greased everything. The final touch was applying the set of sssink.com transfer decals some of which had to be custom made for me.

I tried to capture Cecil’s impressive lug work in the photos which has a very delicate look compared to all my other bikes.

I love how it turned out and I’m excited to get out and ride once the snow/temps let up in a Denver!

Very nice, Cecil was a very interesting character. This one is a very traditional build for him. He had a lot of out of the box ideas that he incorporated into some of his frames.

Open stays and sealed cage mounts for corrosion mitigation, Nivex style RD mounting which seems to work ok but the wheel can be challenging to R+R.

He also built a full size portable Velodrome and was a titanium savant and true genius in many areas of science, especially metallurgy.

Here's mine, mostly as found.

DOH! Fugly Mega billboard efwheel, it has since been stripped of the offending script.

Great looking Behringer merziac !

Mine has an open fork end but not on the rear stays which i found interesting.

I also love the stamped Behringer seat stay caps that both our bikes have! Just a really cool touch.

Thanks for sharing your pics. It’s cool to see another one. I have no idea how many Behringers are actually out there.
