I'll be there for a week starting today. Sarah and I brought bikes and we are staying in an air b&b. Hoping to enjoy the city like we did Portland.

It can be a dangerous city. Make sure you know where you are going.

Duly noted. The same was said about Portland and I never rode in a city that was more fun. Even the homeless population was nice to us.

The Lafitte Greenway is a nice path to ride, as is the levee path on the river if you’re near uptown. Audubon Park has a nice, though short, loop to ride. City Park is great to explore on bike or foot. Check out the sculpture garden and ride the Wisner bike path to the lake.

If you’re near the Marigny, check out Gerken’s Bike Shop and Bicycle Michael’s.

Might want to check this one out: Unrealistically priced given its condition, but seller says "I/m not a bike guy" + "Lets look at it and talk"....Danger Will Robinson!

Fun place! Would give the Mississippi River trail (both sides!) a whirl.

Head over to Frenchman Street for music

Go by Bicycle Michaels on Frenchmen Street and just talk to them.
https://www.facebook.com/bicyclemichaels/ .
Best old school bike shop in N.O. (that I know of). They should have lots of ideas on where to ride or anything else you want to know.
Lots of great music on right there on Frenchmen street and close by. I love this band:

Anyone know how to stop video embedding when posting a youtube link here?

We saw tuba skinny on Rue Royal. Awesome show! I also went to Michael's and bought a bottle. Great time down here!

Did you bring you guitar so you could step in and play somewhere?

That would be cool!

You say guitar singularly, like I would have only 1. I did bring an axe and sat in at a club my buddy suggested. It was quite fun. The house band had some killer players. The talent pool is very deep here.

We have taken a couple of car trips while here but mostly get around by bike. The city has some bike infrastructure but mostly is rideable because neighborhood streets are narrow and not great for car traffic. This mostly makes for slow moving cars but you really have to keep your head on a swivel. Riding here is not for the faint of heart. It is however very flat. Also many streets are very bumpy. I should have brought a 650b ride but my supercourse 12 is less valuable and it looks like bikes get stolen here. Anyway, 1 more day here and we are hitting some used book stores and seeing an art instillation.

Chewbacca walking parade.

Breakfast

Hanging out while Sarah peruses an art store.

About 15 years ago I worked at the Navy base in Algiers. I took my cross bike and did some riding along the levee on that side of the river and one day I did an exploration ride from the French Quarter, down Esplanade to the City Park, through the park and onto the shore drive along the lake. It was a lot of fun and plenty to see. This was just a couple of years after Katrina so could still see a lot of abandoned houses with water stains 7-8 feet up the sides.
