Advice/Help with a Dawes bicycle frame components
This is my first time posting anything on this forum and I've just recently joined. To make a long story short I've just recently gotten back into cycling after maybe 35 yrs. Wow, a lot has changed since I last paid attention to a bike. It seems that the only tires that were available were sew-ups that I rode on a Peugeot PX10E and a Peugeot PR10 and clinchers. Just the types of tires and sizes of tires there are now blows me away. So anyway I purchased a "10 speed": on an auction site being able to only look a pictures of the bike beforehand and it wasn't real expensive (150.00) but on the pictures I thought that I could see a Reynolds sticker on it so I purchased it. I figured it was a decent deal for something I could start riding after work a few miles and take the stress out of my workaholic situation that I've found myself in. After riding the bike for a couple weeks I decided it probably needed maintenance (I, fortunately have kept all my bike tools since being a teenager) that I'd do myself. I got on the internet to learn a little about my bike and researched Houdaille. The "Reynolds sticker" turned out to be chromoly as everybody reading this probably knows and, hell, I hadn't even looked at my bike carefully enough to realize that the crank was this "Power Cam" thing-all I knew was that I still had my Stronglight crank extractor from my Peugeot days! So I rode my Houdaille around for a while until I went on another auction and bought 3 more bike at about the price I paid for my Houdaille time 3. These bikes I also bought based on pictures only since I couldn't get out of work the examine them in person. One bike turned out to be a 1982 Trek 720 (or 728?), a 1985 Schwinn Voyageur and lastly my Dawes Super Galaxy. The Super Galaxy was mostly just the frame though. It has Mafac cantilever brakes, Stronglight sealed bottom bracket, Ayocet headset and Huret downtube shifters only. I've tried to research Dawes Super Galaxy without much success to try and find out what components went on this bike. I've looked at some Super Galaxies on line and I haven't found a bike that even has Super Galaxy written the same way on the top tube. I'd kind of like to put back on the original components if possible i.e. keep it "stock". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
