C&V snobbism is something like reverse snobbery. For a couple of years, I was a reverse snob in regards to bikes. I would pull bikes and parts from the metal pile at the local dump, and find bikes at yard sales, and build my bikes from that. For a couple of years I rode bikes that didn't cost me much. Then I bought new components to improve them.

I'm reminded of when my sister visited me from the country. She wanted to talk about the bike lock more than the gorgeous bike. In the quote above, I could readily replace " snob" with "person ignorant of purposeful art when it's right in front of you"

This post needs "classic" accompaniment...

Ah, Robert Zimmerman - AKA Bob Dylan. The man (as David Bowie described him in song) "with a voice like sand and glue."

The man indeed could (and presumably still can) write absolutely excellent music. But listening to him sing can be, um, less than pleasant sometimes.

I completely agree with this, and not in a satirical way.

Exactly they don’t really care. Yet mention a tubeless tires and some tubular tire advocate will go out of their way and chirp in that tubeless is a scam and only a marketing ploy.

Actually, this is legit. Clamping on a nice set of light weight chainstays isn't a good thing to do. I do use my old Trek 510 to haul lots of things, and if the payload won't fit in a backpack or messenger bag, or bungee to the top of the rack, I'm attaching a vintage Burly D'Lite.

The fact that you acted vengefully is not to your credit. If the riders in question had acted recklessly, then I can understand your beef, but this smacks of entitlement. The riders did not owe you any form of social interaction. Not all bicycle riding is social behavior.

Sigh! I agree. It really takes a lot of gall to broadly pronounce that "we are all one" when they spend all their time gushing over watts and pitching aero gew-gaws. These folk aren't really promoting a cycling of which I want to be a part. In the early 2000s, I bought a pair of (at least to my eye) beautiful custom bikes with high-end Campy of the period; I built some nice sew-up wheelsets which are still holding up wonderfully. I just wish to ride them until my body is no longer capable, and I don't want an industry basically yelling at me "get with the program, old man."

Dear Baby Jesus,
I know you're not old enough to ride a bicycle yet, but please save me and my B.F. brethren from bike-snobbery. We all know that carbon is the devil, but many have not awakened to this fact, so we must treat them with kindness until the awareness of your holiness inspires them to trade-in for steel. I hope that when you return to Earth, you buy a most-righteous, steel Masi or Bertin. I think the Lord, above would shine most brightly on your savvy decision. In other words, let me feel superior without making others feel inferior, dear baby Jesus.

Carbon is okay. Carbon is okay. Carbon is okay...

I've already finished my 3 Hail Campagnolo's to Our Lady of the Dura Ace. No need for more prayer.

Is it handmade in America ? I don't think so , I have troubles to recognize this as a legitimate Canondale. If it was a legitimate one, it would have the Alcoa Aluminium Decal and the Decal "Handbuilt in America" like the older models made in the USA.

Considering that Garmin mounts were about 20 years in the future when the last Cannondale left the Bedford factory . . . .

At 71, I'm a vintage bike snob. A whippersnapper like you---you're merely a vintage-bike snob.
I love the Centre Pompidou for its colorful, skinny-steel-pipe look. I imagine that the architect admired Bauhaus and Brutalism too, though.

You are very wrong on all counts.I own a1992 Giant Tourer which was made in Taiwan and a 1992 Merida Al Bon which is also a taiwanese manufactured bike, both have proven their durability and their reliability. The biggest majority of my road bikes has and will have Shimano Dura Ace 7800 as its equipment, my Mountain Bikes have all XT 780-T as transmission. Depends what carbon you are talking about, if it is a Trek oclv or a giant mcm or the very first specialized epic in carbon or a look KG 196, I love them but if it is the latest carbon stuff with very few exceptions , it will be a firm no.

I saw an amazing deal at Nero Cycles yesterday, a 2019 Scott Foil 10 (in bronze color) with electronic shifting, for $1,600 free-shipped.
It's good to see some of these bikes within price-range of the proleteriat.
