Please Help Identify This 80s Bianchi

Hi All,

Thanks for being a great community on vintage bikes. I have learned alot from the posts, from lurking in the shadows! :)

Recently I saw this bike which the owner claims is a 86 Bianchi Mondiale. But the sticker for the Bianchi logo is funky. It looks like that on a 87 Specialissima X4, with the blue and yellow parallelogram before the 'B' in Bianchi, not the solid, uni-tone, black. He also claims that everything was original but it contained Campy Super Record Front and Back derailleurs, S.R. drilium brakes, magic rims...

I am not allowed yet to post pictures, but does anyone know what this steed is, exactly? Also, it doesn't have double chrome chainstays or chrome forks. The crown on the top of the fork is not silver metallic like the X4s but just a sloped celeste with the Bianchi blue eagle crest stamped on both sides.

Thanks!

Post a few good pics to the Gallery Tab at top of page and we can promote it for regular viewing.

Hi, I just posted the pictures in an album in my profile as you suggested. Can you see it?

Please pardon me, I am very new to posting on this site. Hopefully you all can see it and help me identify the year and model of the Bianchi.

Thanks!

afraid I can't ID this, but I'm sure somebody here can...in general it's more help to see details of the frame and fork, not the components

Looks like a '85 Specialissima SL but more detail shots would be helpful. As my brother would say, "I hope by this time it's already in your cellar..." :)

Thanks so much for the input. Vintage Bianchi's naming system always confused me. When you said it's a '85 Specialissima SL', did you mean the Mondiale, Super Leggera, Giro, or something else?

When you say Specialissima, did you mean the X4? Because I saw from some bikes that in the 80s the Mondiale and Super Leggera in some years were all called the Specialissima. Which Specialissima did you mean? Pardon me, I am just getting into these older bikes.

Looks like your quoted post disappeared, but I saw it in my mailbox. I don't mean X4. SL, X3 and X4 are different models from different years. You can spot an X4 from miles as the head tube logo is pantographed (engraved), no decal.

Both X3 and X4 had collarless fork crown, but here you can compare them - check the 83's cdm to see those had the blue winged logo, not the gold, and flat fork crown, then the '85 Specialissima, then the 86' X4, they have nice detailed photos.
Another hint is this bike is the 85' Specialissima, is the lowe head tibe lug B. on the X3 and X4 it is cut into the lug, on yours it is embossed.
