Serial number location

Hello. Where are bike serial numbers located? I have one 1984 Lotus Supreme and two Schwinns (1987 Le Tour and 1991 highplains).

Common locations are under the bottom bracket, on a rear dropout, or on the steering tube for some Schwinns and Huffys.

I don't know anything about Lotus. On Schwinns it depends on the time and whether they were contract manufactured. 1987 and 1991 Schwinns are most likely on the bottom bracket but possibly on the rear dropout.

My 88 LeTour has the serial number on the lower left side of the bottom bracket. There should also be a 4 digit number on the Schwinn badge on the front of the bike. The first 3 digits are the day of the year (1-365), the last is the year (0-9).

Some bikes also have serial numbers on the seat tube, either at the bottom or at the top by the seat clamp. For bikes that have cables routed under the bottom bracket, sometimes the plastic cable guide will cover the serial number.
