Falcon conumdrum

Just picked up another Falcon, a complete bke this time. Model "Super Route", had what looked like original Campagnlo Velox rear and realy awful wheels, steel hubs and rigida steel rims, GB stem and Weinmann brakes.

As is happens it's exactly the same size as the previous Falcon, also a "Super Route", bought as a bare frame with a mismatched front fork.

The frame from the complete bike weighs 2215gm - with badge and the headset cups still in.
The frame bought as a frame weighs 2415gm with nothing left in.
The lighter frame has no tubing decal at all.
The heavier frame has remains of a 3-tube straight gauge 531 decal.
The heavier frame takes a 27.0 post (just).
The lighter frame takes a 26.0 post.

Frame & decal details make me think the heavier frame is older:

I'm starting to think Falcons are like snowflakes -- no two alike.:foo:

Two items of interest. The heavy one has stamped DO and cable routing above the shell.

I recently picked up a 1959 Claud Butler whose frame is the same size and one gram heavier than your 2215g frame w/ headset cups in. It has the exact same dropouts, too. 26.4mm seatpost.

They both are both, just different, sorry about the bad focus on the gold one; look a the far dropout.
The red one has one of those faux-cast stamped dropouts.
Both pairs of chainstays are seamed.
Another quirk: steerer tube has a slot - at the front.

Found the answer!

The red frame - the lighter one that has the smaller seatpost - is metric tubing.
So a 26.0 post is 1mm wall, straight-gauge.
The gold one is imperial, and 200+gm heavier.

BTW, only marginally connected, I recall searching last year and coming up with nothing -- but I just found a seller on eBay with Falcon-logo cycling jerseys. At just over $20 probably not to quality! I'll have to report back on that, I ordered one this AM. Usual disclaimers x1000.

If you or anyone perusing C&V for Falcon-related topics might be interested in such a thing.
