Viner Track Frame Size

I bought this frame 5 years ago and built it up. This frame was advertised as a 60 cm. I've been riding it with no problems I'm just curious. I found this stamp on the bottom bracket. Does this mean its a 58cm?

certainly appears a good deal larger than fifty-eight

it may be that the builder grabbed a shell already marked with a "58"

enjoy your Nerozzi!

It likely refers to the angle between the seat tube and the down tube.

Does the same measurement from top of seat tube to center of BB have the same rule as standard road bike? I will measure that too after work today.

Nice 2 bike stand that is movable. Is it sturdy for 2 bikes?
Like that Viner SS, Im going to guess 62 cm.

Yes, its movable. It holds bikes very solid. It was purchased from Amazon. I ride 60cm bikes. and this fits nice. I just seen the stamp last year and been questioning it.

I wouldn't say there is a standard rule, more like guidelines for the individual countries and the bigger manufacturers. Like the English did inches and center to top. Most Italian did Centimeters center to center.

I know what size! It's my size ;)

There's no real standard; some measure from center of bottom bracket to top tube/seat tube intersection, others from center of bottom bracket to top of seat tube. The difference amounts to about a centimeter or so.

Measured from the top of seat post tube to center line of crank and it was 59ish cm. Most likely a 60cm and the stamp might be the angle as mentioned above.
The purple line is where I took the measurement.

It's an Italian bike, so 58 would indicate the center-to-center seat tube length in centimeters. Which seems to be correct.

My Alan Competizione says 59x58. It measures ~61cm center-to-top:

Interestingly, my Viner road racers do not have a size indication on the BB shell:

Thanks, That makes sense this is my only Italian frame and only track frame.

So would this frame be technically labeled a 58 cm?

In Italy it would. In many other countries it would be called a 60 cm frame (or 59 or 61, depending on the actual center-to-top measurement). To be safe, add a "c-t-c" or "c-t-t" when describing it.

79pmooney 05-05-23 02:54 PM

My eyes said 59 c-t (which is 58 c-c as JohnD said). I raced a 59 c-t Fuji Pro. My Mooney was taken from it and most of my bikes since have been very close.

Nice bike!

Yep. Looks like you could barely fit a sheet of paper between the crown and front tire on this bike.

My Viner BB (and steerer too) is stamped with a single digit, "6." Seat tube is 56cm on centers.

This was good stuff! Thanks for the clarification.
