Three bikes, three weeks.

So, an extension of the great bike giveaway has me giving away three more bikes from the overload in the portable, temporary driveway storage unit. This will make 32 bikes given away!

For a 6’2” teacher 220 pounds...a 23” Schwinn Super Le Tour (1980-81) in horrific condition when I got it. Since it will be a pub crawler most patina will remain as a disguise. To stretch it for him I am intending on a straight bar, extended stem and seatpost job. Had to get some tyres and an MTB extension stem.

A Nishiki Bravo for a brilliant young lady. Will likely be a standard build with a bit more road happy tires. Might try index but depends.

A single speed fixie for a special needs student about to graduate for a bit more independence and options to get to a job. Only challenge here will be getting a single cog freewheel off without the BMX tool. Might have to splurge and buy one but they are oddly pricey.

Might have an SS freewheel somewhere here. Let me know if you’d like me to check.

jdawg,
I have a four tooth tool that I can lend you depending on the type of freewheel you have. Smiles, MH

I have a few freewheels and the one On there is actually good other than some rust.

its the tool that I think I lack.

So small oops. Next measure first buy second. I presumed that the Schwinn had a standard 22.2 steerer. Nope. Good thing I salvaged the headset. Have to look deep in the stash for a similar stem...

in the meantime, bike number 2. Built from parts stash. Single speed.

I’d like to see how the Barkeeper’s Friend worked out.

- Nobody

It does but it is labor intensive. Have to toothbush it in over and over again and use a bit of 3M scratch cloth here and there. It was good enough for the Schwinn to get it at least presentable with nail polish.

The single speed turned out great. I think the red chain kicks it up a notch. The recipient should be very happy.

Looking up Barkeeper's Friend on their website it states it has mild oxalic acid in it. Also micro abrasive particles but they say it should not scratch glass "if used properly."

Thanks Mike. He was on cloud 9. I took it for a spin through the halls (I am retiring...what are they going to do, fire me...haha). That thing is a heck of a smooth ride. Had to fix a flat tube, but all is well now! Lock added and lights for night time job if he gets one.

Teacher friend loves the Schwinn but might need a bracing collar on the seatpost.

Two ratcheting lefty shifters. May as well get some use on a pub bike.

In the light. Much improved.
