Shimano ST-5500 shift lever reassembly

I removed the shift lever to clean it up, polish and clear coat.

Looking for help in where the spring engages the shifter mech. I think it should be on the clockwise side of the wide tab at 10 o/c?

if yes, tips on how to assemble it. I have tried several times, but end up without return tension on the lever.
