Here’s that 1972 Paramount P-13

I took a few glamour shots today. The build is pretty original-ish, mostly Nuovo Record from the early 70s.

In concessions to age and gravity, the crankset sports a 48/42 and there’s a 14-32 in the back.

New B17 Imperial because I prefer (need, really) the cutout.

The bars and stem are Cinelli but with the newer logos. I chose to use black tape and cables and leave the typical red highlights to some smaller pieces.

A set of replacement decals is on the way from Waterford, but the head badge still rocks.

The ride is smooth and well-behaved. I had it up to 40 on a twisty downhill and if felt solid. I noticed today that unlike my other bikes, I have no toe overlap. And I’d been thinking of swapping in a longer set of arms…Chapeau to Milepost105 for the frame, it’ll get good use!

There’s a lot of Very Shiny going on there. Nice!

ascherer 06-04-23 08:16 PM

Shiny, good. Grunt, grunt.

The build is looking great. I really like the red shifter covers. Welcome to the chrome Paramount club.

The best production headbadge in the business.

Maybe the best period. ;)

So you just happened to have 4 red Campy lever covers laying around? :twitchy:

Genius ;)

Lascauxcaveman 06-04-23 11:39 PM

Oh, hell yeah!

They weren't exactly laying around but you might say they've met their soul mate.

Damn that's nice!

Unbelievable beauty.

ascherer 06-05-23 01:38 PM

Just saying, I'd have to go back through my PMs and emails to figure out just how many of you in some way have contributed to this build, but it's A LOT. Chapeau and my sincere humble thanks to you all, the finest group on the interwebz.

Oh, and these arrived today!

I like your half-step gearing, and I am jealous that your derailleur hanger enables a 1972 NR to accommodate 32T. I shared my 1982 Bianchi story -- 46-38 / 13-15-17-20-23-26 was the absolute lowest I could go without resorting to a 110mm BCD spider.

Great-looking machine, very similar to the 1974(ish) large-frame chrome Paramount one of my friends owned.

Nice "dream build"!

I've seen that before where a narrower spread of chainring sizes allows a short-cage NR to handle 14-32t with grace (and with careful balance of chain length and axle position).

A dream bike, no carbon-fiber, disk-brake, Di2 contraption churned out in a Taiwanese factory will ever come close.

A chrome Paramount is a serious grail bike....! Looks fantastic. How wide are the tires you've got on there?

Thanks. They’re Rene Herse Stampede Pass. Labeled 32, they measure 30.25 on those rims. A little tight but I’ve ‘ad worse.
