Interesting. Of course, the Look pedal system would soon overwhelm any mere aero pedal, the wave had already started.
the A,B rear mech Patent was from before Index.
this was at the tipping point where Campagnolo had too many group families. A lack of focus.
this would continue, I liked Potenza but by the time I wanted to purchase it was gone.

I own a near-mint Chorus 7sp gruppo. Probably dated a couple years after the pictured gen.
Mine uses black plastic/rubber for the pulleys and barrel adjusters.
And my shoe guides are not covered with anything - just chromed.
I occasionally wonder about its value. Everything but pedals.

A most beautiful group that year. I have a couple pieces on this Miyata.
I have Chorus headset on my Bertoni, but it's the later, crappier one with the revolving upper race. The slimness of its flats and on the locknut make it difficult to adjust. And it's a little fugly.

The RD is drilled. Not by me. Got it very early (late 80ies) and I presume the former owner thought it heavy. I like drilled parts but in an older context. This RD should have been left as it was - the "flowing" design is not suited for drillium in my opinion.

So I don't see that Campy had lost it's way, but they had not yet seen that indexing was the future. At the same time, the gruppo had some beautiful parts!

I like the A/B rear mech. It works well on 12/28 7-speed freewheels with grabby teeth, like a Sachs, Shimano, or SunTour, though the last don't have such good teeth. It'll also be decent on a Regina with not-too-challenging tooth range. If you look up any of Berto's analyses of what features enable indexing, this first Chorus doesn't have them, except for rigidity. But as far as far uniform chain gap, it's no better than Record.

In 1987, my Paramount had Shimano 600 EX, slowly being replaced as I could afford it with Dura Ace, and I remember being smitten with Chorus. It was a sexy group.
