1913 postcard
My wife found this postcard in an antique shop:

The front of that postcard is pretty cool with First Presbyterian and the Carnegie Library pictured ten or so years after that fire destroyed everything downtown.

Why did he want the cyclometer? Probably planning to buy another bike in Jacksonville. Perhaps the cyclometer was quite a fancy one like they had in the day. Was he keeping track of lifetime mileage?

I was in Jacksonville on Sunday (after preaching at the Presbyterian Church in Saint Marys, GA). I can confirm, firsthand, it is still "hot" there, 110 years, 204 days later. :foo:

in 2014 I put a NOS Lucas cyclometer on an early 30s Berkshire bicycle (made at the Columbia factory in Westfield, MA). It makes a satisfying clicking sound. It's a similar setup to what tcs posted.

High optic camera lithographic four color process color separation offset press print. At that time The Heidelberg press was king of the sheetfeed press manufacturing of the print industry. Bitd, most of the world worked their prepress in negative masking, the Germans worked in positive. I've done both, it took some getting used to doing work in positive exposure. |
Such a lovely find. My girlfriend scours antique shops for postcards but I've never seen one with bicycle subject matter.

here's a NOS Lucas for sale on eBay. Not as elegant as the advert that tcs posted, but they are neat and work very well.
