I thought there was progress on the Ochsner today, but one of the workers from Fort Wayne showed up with some home brew. A major work stoppage ensued and it may take a while to get back on track. Smiles, Dave #3

The worker is one of the group building nice bikes in Fort Wayne. Here is the evidence brought by said worker. Headaches soon to ensue...

IIRC, I've seen our own cudak888 in such a pose. Scheming, scheming, scheming. Kurt must really be busy with work, his next cinematic/YouTube Oscar worthy masterpiece, or he found that Rover he's been looking for, not to be here poking and jabbing us, at least occasionally.

Got a little more done on making the Jeunet horrible picked up some heavy cheap deep fixie wheels the other day put on on the front with a ugly knobby tire so now I have nicely mismatched wheels and tires. While new it took about an hour to correctly tension the spokes and true the wheel.

I was able to acquire some crucial parts for the Smella today. I wasn't even looking for anything like this, but when they popped up on my Facebook feed I knew immediately that I had to have them.
Shimano 333 stem shifters, Thunder Bird front derailleur, Eagle rear derailleur

I know matching components is totally against the ethos of this challenge, but I think I might have to use these. I had been planning to use a SunTour AccuShift shifter, but these 333's are just gold.
On a side note, the guy I bought this shift kit from sent me this picture of an old Murray 10-speed that he rebuilt as a cafe racer. I think he and @AdventureManCO would get along well.

I took every bit of shiny I had that really didn’t belong together and put this together.

Lest anyone question my commitment to this project, I give you my new decals.

I got these made by lettering.com for about $10. They didn't have a font that was even close to the 1970's Stella decals, but I think this one is a tolerable approximation of the 1954 decal.

These decals also help to conceal the fact that I didn't put on enough paint to cover the old downtube decals.

Progress has been far slower than I had hoped. Apparently older Peugeots are prone to crank-related issues.
Despite using my Bikesmith cotter pin press, the pin decided to deform and wedge rather than come out.

not a huge issue, as I wasn't planning on re-using that crankset, and I was able to removed the lockring and pull the axle out.
I also wanted to address the rust that's now integral to the frame without sanding it all down. I thought that perhaps a pressure wash would do something.

I was wrong...

It may be marginally better in a few spots, but Next step will be acquiring EvapoRust (which is not available at either my local Lowe's or Ace - so I guess it's down to Home Depot)
Also, need to consider the paint schema - or possibly resort to cheesier methods (ie - colored duct tape).
and then, or course, there is this:

Nothing happens until this blasted fixed cup comes out. I had quite a time with one on a different Peugeot just last month that resulted in the complete deformation of five quite stout spring lock washers. This one seems to be a degree of difficulty more stubborn.
I'm eager to get on to the additive portion of this build. Please cross fingers for me.

I'm a month late finding this but this is so what I need.
You know when a friend from one part of your life meets a friend from another part of your life, and you sit back and revel in the moment?
I'm a lurker here in C&V and a sometimes participant in alt bikes, and this is that sweet spot. I've been totally lacking inspiration since the love bike (aka sofa bike II) build.
Love Bike
Last month while riding Paris Brest Paris (on neither alt nor C&V sadly), I was enchanted by the number of people riding minivelos. Then the ninja-dressed fixie rider who skip-stopped into the Carhaix control both blew my mind and piled onto my developing ideas for something to build.
So add ultra/long distance/rando to the fold for a trifecta.
And so I have reached inspiration. A minivelo fixed gear internationally sourced frankenbike that I will ride on RUSA permanent populaire #4584 Portland Three Rivers.

Going through some stuff in my parts bin and realized I have all the stuff to make another Frankenbike. Nice all around Fuji light touring frame set and all the parts to make a semi decent but odd coaster brake cruiser with close to a old school BMX vibe to it should actually come together pretty easy.

WOW. You get points for covering up the original decals with your own, cool original one, but I do feel that you should get extra bonus points because the original decal was pretty beautiful lol.

If we can get a horror junk build hatchet hack job franken bike to ride in either the PBP or the RUSA, that would be simply splendid.

and then, or course, there is this:

Nothing happens until this blasted fixed cup comes out. I had quite a time with one on a different Peugeot just last month that resulted in the complete deformation of five quite stout spring lock washers. This one seems to be a degree of difficulty more stubborn.
I'm eager to get on to the additive portion of this build. Please cross fingers for me.
I don't think your wrench is long enough

Okay, so everyone else's bikes are looking awful, so I'm worried I'm going to get left in the dust here. We can't have that!
So, I was digging around in the shop the other day, and lo and behold, I find this, which is like a giant Ring of Beauty:

So, what's a feller to do...when you've got this...

And this...

???
The answer is, of course....

And...whala!

It’s the Super Pieplate!!!
Even the clearance is good!

Not to be outdone, and out of fear of falling too far behind, I need to get a stem going as well. I decide to basically just close my eyes over my bike junk box and grab the first glimmer of a stem my eagle eyes happen to catch.
Oh, and what a glimmer it was!

Next up...bars. And lemme tell ya, it ain't pretty.
It's gorgeous

GoPro? GOPRO? Are you kidding me? This ain't no GoPro kind of build!
I'll have an 808 Car Key Micro Camera #16 glued onto an old headlight mount.

Edit: We're talking $15 fake key fob spy camera glued on with Shoe Goo kind of action going on over here.
