Welcome to C&V. Glad you joined up. Once you have 10 posts over the course of two days, you can post your own pictures. In the meantime you can add pictures to your album. Once you do we can assist by placing them in our posts to help out.

I don't know anything about your bike, other than to say I once owned a Panasonic made Schwinn from 1979. My guess would be your cables are standard and you can order a new set from lots of places, including these from Amazon. My recommendation would be to also purchase a good cable cutter at the same time and it is helpful if you have a Dremel sander, etc., to help finish the housing ends after trimming (look for online videos to help with install).

On the rear hub, were your bearings bright and shiny when you cleaned them? I wonder if you over-tightened the bearing cones on the axle. Try loosening one side and retightening the lock nut.

Looking forward to your progress.
