With Heavy Patina, I have received complements from a driver as he on-ramped from 15th street to 395 next to the Jefferson Memorial. I thought he was going to get into an accident with the Window down and leaning over to yell out the window as he drove into merging traffic.
What it looked like then. https://live.staticflickr.com/3843/1...06c2fe9_4k.jpgP1020207 on Flickr Then the other one is the De Rosa. Riding downtown Fredericskburg a guy in a pickup pulled up next to me and started a conversation while I was riding. He was blown away to see a great bike back from the day. Little did he see the upgrades. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9841744_5k.jpglate 80's De Rosa Professional on Flickr Then there was the compliment from a couple while riding on the MUP on Mason Neck. I was surprised because I thought his bike looked like a bit of a beater. https://live.staticflickr.com/8610/2...1516b90_4k.jpgP1040289 on Flickr Funny, I don't recall any comments on the Colnago. Maybe if I would ride it more..... https://live.staticflickr.com/7327/1...e4b1646_4k.jpg1983 Colnago Superissimo on Flickr The most recent one built up has not been exposed to the populace I would expect comments because I think this is a beauty. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...6792a632_h.jpg2022-12-07_04-22-24 on Flickr |

Recently rode an organized century on my Merckx. Got a lot of compliments on the bike throughout the ride. Even more though, I got comments on my using flat pedals. Almost everyone was using clipless pedals and they thought it was "wild", "crazy", "old school" that I was using flat pedals. Only obvious performance difference I could detect is I'd have to wait for them to clip in after every red light.
only guys with Speedplay pedals seem to engage faster than me while riding with toe clips and straps. That muscle memory thing. |

This one gets the most comments from both cyclists and non-cyclists. My favorite comment was from my son who asked "The Easter Bunny commissioned a bicycle?"

"That's a cool bike." More than a few times at the brewery by my house. |
I am the only road cyclist anyone in these parts ever sees. I get smiles and waves every time I'm out. Delightful.

Most of my bikes get compliments from time but I found this one in particular to be interesting. One day in the spring I locked my 68 Raleigh Super Course right outside the front door of a local coffee shop and went inside. The door was propped open and I’m in line at the counter just inside the door with my bike in full view from where I’m standing. I’m waiting my turn to order when 4 young guys who look to be in their early 20s exited and walked passed my bike. The first three didn’t notice at all but the last guy stopped and called out to his friends “Holy Moly! Look at this bike!” They didn’t pay him any attention and didn’t come back and look at it, but he stayed there lingering for a bit, just staring at it fondly as his friends walked on. Then he finally shuffled off to catch up with his buddies without another word. It may be just a Super Course but I thought that was pretty cool.

Most recent while about town, what are those levers for? You have to reach down There to shift? And manually select the gear??!
the Colnagos get recognized often. The black, red and chrome Bertin gets the most unsolicited “nice bike” shout outs from automobile drivers. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b2621abd6.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...7815f3819.jpeg |
Not so much a comment, but my bike was lined up with a bunch of modern road bikes at a cafe stop yesterday and a couple walking past stopped to admire my bike, which felt pretty good!

About 2 hours back "is that an original Nishiki" from white van man, early 30s I think.
I was on the Holdsworth Cyclone, which does say Holdsworth in gold on both sides. It is script though and fairly small, plus he could be red/gold colour blind. I had to look up Nishiki. I've got no idea why somebody in London would think Nishiki when they see a vintage bicycle. |
