an option is to contact Colwood Wheel Works to see what he suggests I'll reach out to Colwood to see if he either has any, or has "created one". I was thinking I could kludge something together, but I would rather have the right part if I can get it. |

Good to see this thread back to the top. I'm definitely getting an education here.
The bikes look great! Brent You and me both on the education. I knew there would be both a learning curve and some interesting finds. It's been a fun journey so far. |

I hadn't realized I didn't post a "completed picture of the bike. Here it is before the Davis CR event in October. Did a full court press to get it put together and ride it on the Friday ride. I did figure out I'm not a fixed gear guy and will be converting it to a 3 to 5 speed. I may go crazy and put a double on the front with a suicide shifter. Who knows. The new hubs are on the way from @kilroy1988. Unfortunately I also have another Hetchins on the way to distract me also.

https://www.bikeforums.net/attachmen...1&d=1741140048 am thinking our Mike must be an "elastic man" :D head tube here appears noticeably taller than that of his other mounts yet he still has ~10cm of pillar showing perchance a function of frame geometry...either that or me auld peepers :o ----- |

@Juvela - Good eyes. It's a 24" CTT, which is at my high end (my Paramounts and the Bob Jackson are this tall). The picture was before I adjusted the saddle. Now the Hetchins that is on the way is a 23", so it'll have this much seat post showing.....
Grazie Mille Don Michaelo! And well on his way to becoming an Avalonian expert. ;) All best to our Capitano Jonny. ----- ----- |
Cool Bike
I hope you’re still going to try and get the SA rear hub up and running their rare but great
I have had similar problems with my FM hub ended up using a new SA chain cut down and riveted to the rod till I got lucky and found a upper quick release part and then had to make a custom cable to fit the barrel of the adjuster. yep headclips headsets have a lot of variations in clamps top nut threads and bearing sizes cup sizes etc steep learning curve with some of these old English bikes but if it was easy it wouldn’t be so interesting i also use 700 alloy rims it’s the only reasonable way to get a decent strong usable wheel at a sensible price with good braking and tyre options for a bike that will get used regularly All the best Pete |
