WARNING, scary non C+V content

This will very likely become a thing, how long it takes remains to be seen. :twitchy:

Andy_K 12-17-23 02:26 PM

Is it April 1 already? Who thought this was a good idea, let alone necessary?

tiger1964 12-17-23 02:53 PM

Followed closely by wireless steering?

Bad Lag 12-17-23 03:10 PM

What's next: self-driving, electric powered bicycle.

Why even bother?

chain_whipped 12-17-23 03:21 PM

Why is this dumas brake thingamajig video even posted here?

merziac 12-17-23 03:25 PM

They talk about better modulation but any hiccup might send you off the 1000ft dropoff unintentionally.

Then you pull the brake lever and the little screen only shows "connecting, please wait..."

TiHabanero 12-17-23 05:09 PM

Great idea. Complicate life a bit more with more tech. Don't address needs, just wants.

Steel Charlie 12-17-23 05:24 PM

If a phone app is added it won't even be necessary to have levers

rando_couche 12-17-23 05:27 PM

And what happens when the battery dies?

Was just about to post this. Knowing how people maintain their bikes and all, wireless braking is a bad idea just given human nature.

Fail safe. Brakes just lock up.

I don't see what the big deal is, wireless braking has been around for ages...

... where the want is for them to sell you something "new and improved".

Bad Lag 12-17-23 07:41 PM

I'm going to make a hand-held jammer.

That's wicked, I know, and I won't really do it. It is just a curmudgeonly response to stuff like this.

You do, too.

Oh, those are here already:

Sure, sounds like a great idea. Make it a monthly subscription for the best braking with regular system updates. Do you want the best braking possible? That's a $5 per month subscription. You don't want to pay? No problem, you get the "adequate" performance, nothing more.

Now everyone can afford Super Record and Dura-Ace, even if only for the weekend.

1989Pre 12-18-23 05:25 AM

...and 30 years from now, the F.C.C. and E.P.A. will finally admit that exposure to wireless transmissions at high intensity and/or long duration disrupt mitochondrial activity and cause cancer and are endocrine and neurological disruptors.

nomadmax 12-18-23 05:26 AM

And right behind electronic braking is........ABS.

Chombi1 12-18-23 06:17 PM

Next might be AI, autonomous steering and navigating bikes to match your Tesla.....

Late capitalism FTW. If there's a penny to squeeze out by building in access tiers and subscriptions models, the "free market" will find it

Because on the regular forums everybody would just be like "ooh, sounds good, here's my credit card."
