How to overhaul campy c-record hub?

Hi,
I like to know how to over haul Campagnolo C-record (star) high flange hub. I like to know the correct way to perform this task. I think I need to open them up and repack the grease and replace bearing.

They spin quite smooth but not as my other Superbe hub.
Any help would be great appeciate.

thanks again...

Puckman. . .

you really can't overhaul those. . .they are practically useless, send em to me
and I will dispose of them properly (on a pair of Mavic GP4 rims)

ok enough playing around.
You are correct in that you need to take apart the hub and repack the bearings.
It really isn't a difficult process (unless you lose ball bearings!), and while you
have the hub open you might want to replace the ball bearings with new ones.
There are good instructions for this at:
Park Tool
A good repair book (zinn, bicycling, barnett's etc.) is also a good investment.

hope this helps. if not send me the hubs.

note:
I recently got an old Bottecchi that had hubs that needed re-packing
The cones were toast, so I brought one in and had them get me replacements
I brought in the back wheel to have the freewheel removed, and they thru up the red flag!

The cone was not correct per the type (actually Gran Record)
As a result of the past discretion by some owner, the wrong bearings were also put in and the cup was trashed...

so make sure that you have the right replacement parts

As ever, Campagnolo made a special tool for removing the dust caps. sort of like a small gear or pinion puller. Absent access to the tool, you are left to pry at the groove between the cap and hub body, but do so carefully and evenly to avoid scarring the soft aluminum or distorting the press-fit dust cap.

...and, by all means, replace the bearings. No need to go through the effort at re-packing the hubs if you aren't willing to replace the bearings. I have three sets of C-record wheels and have re-packed the hubs on all of them. I put plenty of grease in, then wipe the excess off when it bleeds out on my rides. I'd rather error on the over side (with grease) than the other way. C-record hubs are bullet-proof. In addition, they're arguably among the best-looking of their genre ever produced.

P.S. A screwdriver, carefully used, is sufficient to (carefully) pry the race/dust cover from the hub so that you can effectively clean the races.

The dust cover tool shows up on ebay frequently, often for cheap as it is often not correctly described, mine is at work, will see if I can snap a image by tomorrow, It grabs the cover from two opposing edges, about 40° of engagement, and uses a screw to extract the cover, very nice, very Campagnolo.

Finally found a pair of C Record hubs high flange 32° on ebay a while ago, $70. buy it now, stumbled on it minutes after being listed, best deal that year, one knows you are in deep when you buy the tool first.

Too bad there is no place in the Campagnolo tool kit for it.

Be seeing you

Thanks again..happy riding..
