C Record oddities discussed?

Calling in the experts!! The more I learn about Campy from this era the more confused I get. These hubs have alternating big & small spoke holes on the outside of the flanges. All others I have seen have equal size holes. More C record weirdness??

Big hole to clear spoke head, small hole for the spoke elbow.

I think those are the 1st gen C-Record hubs - they have the earlier style QR skewers.
