Help on picking a frame

Hi all, got the bittersweet news that the frame I have is a bit too big for me. I've seen two frames that are within my budget and that are claiming to be pretty nice.
Any comments with which bike and why would be a big help!

Bike 1
  • Claims it's 531c
  • Claims Mercia king of Mercia (via people on FB saying it was)
  • Reported weight of just under 1.72kg + 600 fork (edited from just 1.7 frame only)
Bike 2
  • Woodrup racing frame
  • 531c
  • Comes with headset and BB
  • Says it's 2.7kg ( which is what is putting me off this one because I'm finding it difficult to believe that the a frame of the same size and tubing could weigh so much more!)
I'll add more pics to my gallery.

1.7kg sounds like sans fork

It helps to know where you live as both bike are UK based builders.
Also are the weights with or without the fork?
For me either would be a sweet ride.

As a practical matter the weight difference will make no difference. I'd go for the one that looked the coolest.

FWIW: depending on type, a headset and bottom bracket could easily weigh around 400g combined - which appears to be roughly the weight difference between the two frames in question. If the Mercia's quoted weight is sans headset and bottom bracket, then the frames likely weigh pretty much the same.

Either should make a fine vintage bike.

If possible, I'd look carefully at both frames in person. Absent a compelling reason to the contrary (e.g., dramatically different geometries, absolutely unacceptable color, etc . . . ), I'd then probably select the frame that appeared to be in the best shape.

Best of luck.

More than likely the Mercian is a little more fancy as far as cosmetics go. Both are known to be quality products.

I would pick the frame with fancier lugs but that’s just me.

Both sound awesome. How is the condition of either? If either one needs a repaint, $$$.

Got pics?
