Help Identifying Pinarello frame

Hi,

I will add more photos shortly but curious about this vintage frame.

It's apparently a Pinarello (no chrome) with Chamion No.2 Chromoly decal, Olympic stripes and bold yellow Pinarello decals.

The frame is slightly rusted and looks legit.

Will photo BB and forks when the shop is open on Monday.

Any help identifying would be greatly appreciated as I cannot find this bike, the decals nor any Pinarello with a Champion decal, only the standard Columbus decal.

It looks similar to a Special but the font is different and the Olympic stripes are different.

I can't post images yet until I have replied to ten threads unfortunately.

Cheers,
Brett

I remember Pinarello briefly using Tange's Prestige tubing, never heard of them using Champion.

Upload some photos to your album and a helpful forum member will post them into this thread.

Thanks, I have a photo of the Champion decal on the frame on my profile.

I know of no Pinarello made with Champion steel.

is it j7st me or do those "Pinarello" letters look close together?
(Edit) I meant to say, "...too.close together..."......

No,it is not just you, they are close together.

Lotus? I know they had a range of colors. That would be my guess, if the Tange 2 is the material.

Try to get the serial numbers off the bottom bracket (they should be there). I don’t really see anything that looks Pinarello-y unfortunately.

However, despite the possible “rebadging”, could be a nice frame nonetheless.

Maybe it could be a contract out Pinarello for a different market, but that would be rare.

One more minor thing - the "P" and "I" are not aligned. Something that would not likely have happened from the factory.

- BUT - I wouldn't know a Pinarello if it bit me. Did have a Nishiki bite me once, but that was consensual.

They are actually correct; the vertical of the P and the I are similarly not aligned (though the letters' centre-lines are) on factory decals.
However, all the Pinarello seat tube decals that I've seen have been a pair, left and right side - not a single down the front.

Thanks everyone.

I will take pics tomorrow morning.

There are 1970's Pinarello's with the logo down the seat tube centred like the Treviso model.
Lettering is the same as mine.
This is a South African market bike.

Before seat tube mounted bidons became common place, there was a single vertical line of text on the seat tube. From about ~1984 the text was placed on both sides of the seat tube (when there were bidon mounts.)

Hmm. Interesting that it is South African. That could account for different make-up/decaling.

More pictures would be great, since it is cool no matter what it is!

Looks like its a Japanese 1983 Pro-Miyata

notbluesteel 09-16-24 09:17 AM

On closer inspection it's not a Miyata.

Obviously not a Pinarello, but looks like a nice frame anyway.

Reynolds 09-16-24 07:52 PM

Not Pinarello IMO.

notbluesteel 09-17-24 11:36 AM
