Does Your Back Yard Look Like This..?
Though I sold this city property some time ago, it was not uncommon for my back yard to look like this. Thought you might get a kick out of a a Vintage Bike Find Aldo set of pictures. Only this time, you choose your Aldo. This is just supposed to be a bit of fun now that the sun is dun in Thunder Bay...

Wow , I feel much better now . I have two 5 bike stands that are full plus a couple bikes in sheds . The stands are housed at my shop where I grind cutting tools and I have a couple of sheds at my home. I have never had a back yard of bikes , that would not work with my wife. The thought of poking around for gems would’ve been appealing a few years ago , alas I’m now on the other side of it all and selling seems more likely than buying. Unfortunately , unlike classic cars , the thought of a back yard full of bikes seems burdensome with very little value . Even “gems” would be hard to move along these days as hoards of bikes are now being liquidated with not enough buyers. The fun , for me , is knowing someone gets pleasure out of collecting a stable like these . Cool to see so many bikes , thank you for posting .

Shortly after I retired (2013) I started working 1 day/week for a “flipper “. His pile made yours look tiny. He had long rows of bikes packed tight under tarps, all around the boundary of his large rural property. More piles without tarps. More all around the swimming pool. Back porches packed to the rafters, garage packed so tight you had to climb around to get to things. All around the house, except street side (keep the locals and local government quiet) and several sheds out back. 5 gallon buckets of parts everywhere. Mountains of tires and wheels. MONSTEROUS!
Then inside the house……. OMG. And more in a rented space a few blocks away. |

Looks like a good way to become an expert at removing/dissolving stuck alloy seat posts. All that humidity coming from the ground can't e good for them bikes and it is in fact worse than rain.

Everyone has to have an old W123 in their yard...
At this time, I am conspicuously missing a backyard or yard of any type. Also missing my old Benz... I do have a garage though and that is as good as gold living in a Philly rowhome. As it stands, my garage is filled with bikes (and an inflatable boat), and my basement is populated, but not filled with bikes in varying states of disarray/project completion. Phil |
My goodness there are some serious piles of bikes in those pics.
I won't even mention the few bikes I have in my basement for fear of embarassing myself. However, my buddy has a single car garage on the back of his pie shaped city lot and it is totally stuffed with CCMs, Pugs, Raleighs and one or two Chicago Schwinns. I'll have to take a few pics and post them here. It's total chaos IMO. |

I have a good friend and neighbor whose backyard looked like that times about 4
there was a good reason he founded and still leads a leading bike based charity in San Jose and at the time it had, him, a van, volunteers and his backyard I remember talking to him one day and he told me he got offered a temporary (for a couple of years before it was redevloped) brick and mortar space and wondered if he should take it, as it was a huge step My answer was: take it and give your wife her back yard back ;) |
Probably won't blow any body's kilt up but I lucked out and got a shot of a rarely seen King Rail in my yard, not the back yard, no the front yard, but a rare siting indeed...

Maybe this vehicle was owned by the guy I am thinking of and he sold it for a pickup truck.
There is this guy in my state that gets a large percent of the bikes that my local co op planned to throw away and he loads them on his truck and takes them down to Mexico to donate to people. I have seen him a few times and his truck is always looking like this van. |
