9 speed Campagnolo

I知 building a vintage somec and am going with 9 speed campy. I am riding the same set up on my other rides, however this time I知 am using a racing T, I need to know if the 9x2 shifters will work with the triple chainring or is there a 9x3 I must have for this set up.

I have a 9x2 Veloce and the left shifter is just a kind of ratchet/friction type thing. So I reckon it would work fine on a 9x3. Idk if they ever made a different shifter for 3x.

Yes, any Campy front shifter that does the ratcheting thing (I believe "Ultra Shift" is the name they use, but pretty much everything in the 9-speed era) works well with a triple.

Quite off-topic but Campy 9-speed and DT friction (I had my Ti Cyles built with a SunTour Superbe top mounted "braze-on") is sweet, sweet, sweet for those of us who still like to reach down. I've never run a Shimano cassette but their newer freewheels shift too easily for me. If I shift quickly and put the derailleur between cogs, they can oscillate between the two, shifting when I change pedal pressure but in the wrong direction. By contrast, the Campy may shift once to the cog it is happier with and be done. As one who raced the old 5-speed SunTours, I still love and take for granted freewheels/cassettes that will allow me to do one big shift to "something here should be about right" then get out of the saddle and honk. The Campy 9-speeds are fully onboard for that kind of riding. I love it. (And yes, everything is happier and quieter if I take the time to do a proper, accurate shift. But my bikes are tools that get asked to be a part of the riding I love to do. I still love to ride - yes a lot slower! - like I used to race.)

Thanks

Well this will open up my search for shifters. I was starting to eye the shifters on my Trek 2300 but it is too happy the way it is. Thanks to all who responded I知 off to find a set of record 9 speed shifters and get back on track with my first build

I harvested my Trek 2200 SL and these 105 Brifters are available. The wheel set is also available - Rolf rims and hubs and cassette. The hoods are a bit scuffed and I have not attempted repairs, if needed, to any of the components...
