N + 2 ?!?!

After my first C/V bike purchase, many of you warned that this can be addictive. I went to check out another one for sale this weekend and found that the nice price listed was actually for both the bikes the seller had. So now am the owner of a pair of Trek Elances. They are the “400” double crank model of 1986.

Some random observations on them …
 The “SBI” parts listed in the specs are apparently: “Specialized Bicycle Inc.” … and the bikes still have these tires and saddle … from nearly four decades ago!! And note that these large competitor brands of today were supplier and customer then.
 Both the 18” size and 22.5” size have just 38 cm wide handlebars.
 Frame geometry for this “Sport” model was the same as their touring bike of the time (the “520”), and surprisingly even the same geometry for the “700” model, which they advertised as “.. for the serious triathlete”. How times have changed!

Pair of Elances ... Elanci?

There's nicer Treks out there in terms of geometry, build and tubesets, but those 86 blue Elances are still some of the best looking bikes.

The blue does look great too. I liked the black of these ... with black saddle and 'bars, combined with tan sidewalls and gold and silver accents ... they have almost an elegance to the look.
Am really curious to experience the ride quality with Reynolds 531, plus long chainstays. Should be good.

Congrats on N+2! That's a great pair pickup! 531 is usually a very fine ride.

Very nice find. 2x better than N+1!
