Concorso GT Mixte
Sorry, the picture uploader has been giving me grief for a couple weeks now.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ee07aa2d17.jpg I recently wheeled this home. It was sitting on the curb with a free sign and I know a couple from Afghanistan who could definitely use a pair of bikes. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...57e43b96a3.jpg I also figured I could move all the parts from the Trek 750 (700c wheelset, indexing derailleurs, nicer stem and flat bars) to the mixte. The mixte seems pretty nice for free. Lugs look clean and have some lining to them. Looks about the same as a mid-line Japanese frame, but I can't find anything on "Concorso" bikes. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...722090edbc.jpg Is this just another brand name used by WSI or some other importer? |
Nice bike finds. Concorso is likely a private label. The shop that I worked in in the early 80's had a private label bike that had some similarities to this Concorso. I'm not implying that it is the same, just that it is easy enough to go to the bike show where there were a number of Asian bike companies eager to get even limited distribution in the US and Canada.
Do the couple need two bikes or just one? It is a shame that they have been left out in the elements. |

Do the couple need two bikes or just one? It is a shame that they have been left out in the elements. I tried sifting through T-Mar's serial number guide. The first two characters on this are LY followed by a long number. I'm guessing Y has to be a year code, although it could be a fortnight. But almost certainly not a month, unless they don't start with A. The L could either be a factory, fortnight, or month (December). I didn't see any on his list that start with an L for their factory. Probably identifying a matching serial number will be the best way to confirm the make of this frame. |
Nice work. That 750 is a heck of a nice bike. I picked up one a few years back (one of the lugged 750s) and finally got around to building it up last year. It's a fine machine.

I'm guessing the Concorso is Taiwanese based off of nearly all the components being Falcon.
Seatpost came out fine; stem is a bit stuck. Sitting upside down with a steerer tube full of PB Blaster as we speak. |
