Specialized Crossroads for $10
I picked this Specialized Crossroads up for $10 from the local thrift store a couple days ago after about an hours work pretty pump up tires and replace one shift cable and some different pedal which I had. Didn't really need this one but couldn't pass it up at this price to see it given away or possibly get thrown in the dumpster.

Nice find and thanks for the pictures zukahn1 . What do you think about the way that it rides? What would you change? Do you like the sprung seat post? I had one on a bike and took it off, then I was watching CyclingAbout on YouTube and Alee, the host, who has way more miles ridden than me says that they are great.
I like the crankset. And platform pedals seem appropriate for this bike. I look at these hybrid bikes and think they make great cross country/gravel bikes. Do you like the suspension fork? Is it worth it's weight? I see you are in Colorado so you have some trails that that travel will help. |
That bike is amazing. I didn't know the crossroads model carried over to a suspension fork model. I've been looking for something like this for my wife.

That is about a massive score ! Those are simply great bikes and I will regret forever letting go of the one that I had.

The wheel is centered the drive side chain stays are slightly offset on these if you look the tire lines up with the center tube.

This is the budget model they used the cheaper suspension fork with short travel to save cost over using a nicer carbon fork. It rides fine the fork is kinda pointless with short travel probably more for marketing it would likely ride about the same or better if they just went with strait bladed rigid fork.

This bike I think has a more road-bike-oriented suspension fork, typically having less than 1" of travel (which you might miss, once removed).
The tell is usually the swoop to the lower fork legs. The lower-tier forks often lack sufficient precision to allow the seals to really work at all when water or dust is encountered, so having intact rubber bellows can be essential and is the sign of a decent fork if the rubber isn't the type that cracks after a couple of years. My (originally Costco-sourced) Schwinn Broadway hybrid has an SR/Suntour fork of this type, but it uses a welded-up steel (with pressed-in aluminum dropouts) lower leg assembly and I had to add my own fork boots when I rebuilt it. But it's a very worthwhile addition for rough surfaces even if mine is quite flexy (because of it's welded-sheet construction). As a follow up part 2 I got a really nice WTB seat attached to a nice new condition Raceface seat post for $3 from the same thrift store today. I put the nice seat on rigid post I had in my parts stash and put them on this bike makes a world of difference over the mushy comfort seat and suspension post and looks a lot better. So I now have a bike that I may ride and keep that's fairly nice for under $20 and get really nice post for my parts stash.
