Early Xmas

Picked this up a couple hours ago. Performance TR1000 3/2.5 titanium. For peanuts. Local CL bike flipper had it. Quite a nice person actually.

Probably an early one, 95-96 maybe, judging from the Shimano 600. Later ones went to 105. Looks like it's been sitting for some time but I'm sure that it will respond to some modest cleaning. I was way surprised at the really lovely welds. Since the bike retailed for near $2K in 95 I suppose that I should not have been surprised at all.
At any rate a fun project that I've been looking for a long time.

Very cool. Are you thinking of swapping some parts around or a clean resto?

Weight-weeniedom has been decreed for the long sought Ti project a couple years ago. Probably DA7700 mostly. Lotsa Ti bits.

Either nice or very "naughty"
Nice bike!
Best, Ben

For some considerable time I was known as " Nice Guy Charlie ". I'd hear it all the time, " Nice guy, Charlie ", they'd say.

It'd take a dedicated effort to be naughty these days. And that'd likely involve the police so I try to avoid that. :innocent:

Sounds like a cool project. DA will look great. I’ve heard the riding experience is unique and beloved, keep us posted!

Performance brand bikes always seem to undervalued and nicely built. Likely because of the limited name recognition. I've build a few up for friends who love them. I never knew they released a Ti frame. There may be a member selling a Ti bottom bracket in the classified section if you're after one.

Looking forward to seeing the build!

There is. A Sampson bottom bracket and crankset... ;)

Thanks. I already have a Ti BB that has been waiting for a bike. :thumb:

Amazing. I bought exactly the same bike in Austin, TX on Sunday from a junk removal guy who was flipping his find. I looked up what I assumed was the bike you bought (in Sacramento on Craigslist) to get a price point for the one I bought. Now trying to decide how to build it up. Small world.

Crazyness ! AFAIC the frame is worthy of anything. This one is going to get an Ultegra6500 set while I collect the 7700 stuff and Ti goodies. I'm finishing up a 7700/CXP33 wheelset today that will go on it.
I'm guessing that it'd be difficult to go wrong with any decent group and wheels.

A while back I bought a '98 LS Classic frame on eBay for $400. the seller had planned to strip there paint and polish it, but lost interest mid-way through, so it's a mix of polished and raw finishes. My original intent was to build it up with an old Campag 10sp groupset I had lying around, but I went a little nuts and turned it into an S&S-coupled 12sp travel bike. It' rides beautifully - really too good to be relegated to travel only, but at least I'm not going to be riding somewhere distant and regretting the absence of a "good" bike
