Now this is a bike you definately will be able to spot in a crowd. It was sold by Target as a Messoni what ever that means. When we received it all we got was the frame and fork plus an atached full chain case in the same pattern, unused, with the sales stickers still attached. that chain case was just too much so it had to go. I will probably use it somewhwer else, maybe with an all black frame. The bike was originally a single speed. The only700c rear wheel I could find with a coaster brake was 1.5 Inch wide so that was installed using a 700 x 40 street tire with a reflective stripe . The front wheel is narrower and got a 700 x 25 white tire. Up front there is a 1" threaded to threadless adapter and a threadless stem mounting some white 2" riser bars. A new chain, pedals and drive train with a 44 tooth chainring and 22 tooth rear cog should make for efortless cruising . This is basically a new bike . Frame/fork, stem, bars, grips, rear wheel , chain are all new and the tires and saddle are "good as". I think people don't realize how far apart ships engaged in combat during this era. They were typically firing at each other from 2-5 miles apart. The dazzle paint was meant to blend in with all the light reflecting off the water at those distances. It similarly prevented easy spotting from the air at great distances. The concept was that the mass of a solid color - even gray - would be more obvious than that because the water would have more variations from light and waves, etc. (edited for spelling) |

OT, but I've read a bit. Predates radar. Apparently this confused eyeball recognition of ship size, made it hard to tell where the ship began and anded; some opponent thinks he;s attacking a cruiser and -- oops! -- finds out he's taking on a battleship.
