Mystery Cinelli stem
Was this meant for a laser??
I have never seen the triangle bit. or Cinelli panto or in this blue. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...9594cccfd.jpeg |
I don't recognize the logo on the triangular insert, but if you look up "Cinelli 1r stem pantographed" it's fairly obvious that many brands - particularly Italian - used these stems and had custom pantographing done, and many of them had the Cinelli letttering as seen here. These were highly customized back in the day like all other pantographed parts. There's no good reason to assume this is a "stock" appearance.

2¢ worth of thots: the "blue" anodizing might be previously black that has faded (more common to see it go to bronze-brown or purple but both green and blue "faded black" dyes are seen)
I assume since the logo is the "Winged C" that the plastic insert in the front off this otherwise "normal" R-1 stem has that logo rather than the earlier CINELLI spelled out in sans-serif caps: true? The curious detail is that triangle with what I interpret to have a very stylized blurred (by extreme speed!) cyclist racing downhill in front of some snow-topped peaks. Never seen it before but somebody considered that the most important thing to have on this stem, after promoting Cinelli! Some team famous for death-defying high speed descents? Is it "mitered" into the stem metal itself (as it appears) rather than a "metallic sticker"? Can you tell if it's a different metal than the aluminum alloy stem, and if so what metal? |
I have one of those as well. It is almost certainly navy blue. Not sure what bike it was meant for.

The silver bit is inset.

I think this may be a Cinelli Colorado stem. I've got the Cinelli bars that go with it on a Serotta Colorado.

Was the wedge intact and not cracked? :innocent:
But did I just dream this or is somebody making an aftermarket wedge for these R-1 that MIGHT be more durable than the (cast-steel?) OEM? |
