Frame ID - Vitus CX?
 

Any ideas what this is? Apparently it's a Vitus. Italian bottom bracket, 1" fork.

possible touring frame replacement for my partner after the Miyata 1000 fiasco. Although i'm not so keen on the fork for touring (700km route, smooth path, but still), and it appears to have no bosses, not even water.
It got offered to me on facebook. I'm thinking no for those reasons, and the paint is not very charming, and the rust on the chainstays is slightly concerning. But i'm curious what it is and always interested in something magic.
I do like that it has downtube bosses and the top tube brake bosses in that style.
50 c-c seat tube 51 c-c top tube is good but a possible high bb for CX is not good.

Euro-style 'cross frames, which this seems like it is, are pretty much just wrong for things that aren't one hour of total suffering, in the mud, probably half-drunk, with more cowbell. Short geometry, high bottom brackets, no way to attach anything to the bike.

I wouldn't expect one to be any fun on a 700 km / 435 mile tour.

Does not look like anything Vitus. The chsinstsy protector does say "Viner", which is an Italian brand, not French.

yes it's got some details sort of similar to this Viner road frameset built with conventional Columbus Brain tubing and a unicrown fork, but this CX frame has multi-shaped frame tubes, most joints are TiG-welded OR fillet brazed.

Then there's the canti brake bosses and most likely CX geometry, plus that Alu-alloy fork that looks like it MIGHT have come from Vitus, but not one of theirs I recognize.

In short it's probably an oddball CX from Viner with unknown tubing and alloy fork, there's probably somebody who'd like to own this one (especially if the price is "right") but certainly as said NOT a bike to take on a long tour

The only frames Vitus made were aluminum and carbon. Vitus is primarily a tubing maker. Bikes with Italian BBs are unlikely to be made of French tubing.
