medici advice needed

I seem to be close to having a medici in my size follow me home. It has fallen on hard times; all of the original components were removed and replaced witha variety of Takagai, shimano, dia-compe components that are functional at best. The seat stay is broken loose from the seatpost lug. I can have that re-brazed. This bike would never be restorable from an economic perspective. It has gummed up, but possibly salvagable, 6sp freewheel. Is it a crime against bikedom to spread the frame to 130mm and go with freehub? I think that it deserves to be ridden, but I am not sure where to start or how far to go. Thanks for any advice.

Can't see it from my house...;) Really, if the bike's not usable now, and you fix it and ride it... How's that a crime? Since it's at 126mm now, a spread to 130mm really isn't even needed. Just stick your freehub in there. What's 4mm; like an eighth of an inch? I doubt the misalignment of the drop-outs would be enough to cause problems. Might be nice to see it painted up pretty with proper Medici decals on it...

Thanks! Do you have any idea where I might find proper medici decals?

Does the bike have it's original decals right now...? If not, what's the vintage of the bike? There are some Medici bikes around to get pictures & measurements from, if yours doesn't have decals now. Mr. MSWANTAK needs good pictures & accurate measurements to make good artwork from. (Medici decals would be good to have around too Mike...) I have an '84 I could dig out for decal pics if it's determined yours is near that vintage, fsor.

BTW; here's that link to catalog scans if you haven't seen it:

Medici promoted themselves as being cost effective, while well done their value has not had a run up like others. I have one as well. Obtained pretty cheap, a circa 1980 example. The decals on mine are of the more sedate type without all the shooting stars behind the typography.

Every time I look at it I am reminded that I should have gone down to Union Pacific Aenue and ordered that Confente way back.

If anyone has nice Medici Gran Turismo in a 54cm that they'd like to sell...let me know. Any color...

And I should have bought a couple of those new Masi frames that Carnevalle was showing me right around '76-'77... Who knew?

Should have bought 1,000 shares of Microsoft stock back in 1980. ;)

Thanks for the tip on the decals, I had no idea we had a master crafter on the list. I need to look at the bike again to verify but I think that it is about 1980-ish....mswantak would be in great demand in the vintage motorcycle venue...decals are hard to come by.
