can someone confirm if this is an A0-8 and is 50 worth it

i think i found an AO8. i contacted the seller and he described the bike for me the only prob. i see is that it had an 8 digit serial # 10067738 on the BB, would that be an 80's bike?? ( he stated no letters before numbers)

frame is green, with record du mond. he stated the fork is green no chrome. and there are wing-nuts on both rims-no quick release. i thought that those were taken out late 70's.

frame is Tubes Special Peugeot
Simolex derailluers
MAFAC breaks

thanks any help will be appreciated he wants 50 buks and was wondering if thats too much to pay for the bike, especially if they can be had at thrift shops for 25

50$? No. If you buy it or not, consider the use for it-- these work best as urban beater, lock to a pole, don't cry too much if they get stolen kinda bikes; good for going to the movies in urban areas and the like. Pure and good beater. If original, has steel rims and cottered cranks. If it's been modernized, worth a bit more.

Tell the seller you'll give him a fiver, and that he should be paying you so that he doesn't have the headache of dealing with French threading on his hands. Better yet, tell him you'll take the bike if he gives you a fiver. Impress upon him you are only doing this out of sympathy for your fellow man.

They're actually real nice riders-- pretty comfy geometry, make nice fixies, etc, but converting them for urban beater use takes either some cash or a basement full of parts. My UO8, which I would not part with, cost me five bucks and a track cog, plus a parts raid downstairs. It's quite valuable on pub crawls and for catching the occasional movie (which is why I would not be rid of it), but the frames aren't exactly hard to find-- I see about 5-10 UOs/AOs a year at local thrifts and auctions. I like 'em, but not at 50$. That's NYC/Seattle/SF pricing. Actually, it's likely low for them places.
