I learned yesterday not to bang too hard when removing the headset cup from the fork crown. WHAA!
I was using my newly acquired Campy fork headset cup remover for this project. First I started with a couple of 'medium' taps and nothing. No movement, same solid sound. Ok, somehow a lightbulb goes in my head and I decided to give it a good whack. Headset cup comes off. Great! Then I started cleaning it up and notice a line. Hum, could it be a grease/dirt line? NO! The cup is cracked. WHAAAaaa!
FYI, the cup removed was a Campy SR/NR cup.
Ok, that's it. Done whinning.
Any other leasons learned that you are willing to share?

You are speaking of the crown race (lowest one, on the fork, yes?) If so, Nuovo Record and Super Record while they use the same bearing set up have different outer and height dimensions. for a replacement stick with what is correct. Unfortunately any of them command a high price as they are the most vulnerable part of the headset.
My last NR headset cost me $100., NOS the crown races alone seem to get $35 to $50. Ouch for either.
If you want Campagnolo Quality, you must pay the Campagnolo Price.
Some Tange will fit, but they are getting scarse as well.

Hum, I did not know that they are difference crown races. I guess that I will have keep my eyes on Ebay as this is for a Super Record set. By the way, how can you tell if somebody is really selling a NR or an SR crown race?

Super record crown races have a small lip or ring just above the bottom surface that can be seen in profile, Nuovo Record blends right away with no interuption from the face that contacts the fork crown. Nuovo Record parts changed slightly over time as well, they collected about 2mm in thickness, (height) over the decades.
Where I was able to advise my brother that his early about version 1.5 Campagnolo headset was worth probably as much as someone would offer for his entire bike, an Ideor Asso.
Should have a "new" project in a week or two with a Steel Campagnolo seatpost...from a time when steel was really real.
