Don't know if I've posted this here or not; I can't remember. Anyway, here's my 1985 Peugeot Canyon Express. Had a few parts upgraded (XT 7spd thumbies, V-brakes and levers, and STX-RC rear derailleur) along with some narrow slicks. I don't think the fork is original, neither are the bars and stem but it has evolved into my absolute favorite bike to ride. It is currently serving bike path duty for outings with the kids but someday it may possibly become my long distance tourer. It certainly has all the accoutrements for it....

Great to see another pug MTB on here, You've got a better model than mine bellow but mine's a 1990. Here's a link to some cool brochures.

What size are those tires on the Peugeot?

Smokinapankake 02-21-12 07:35 AM

On mine they are a Ritchey Tom slick rear 26 x 1.4" and the front is an unknown Michelin that is prolly a 1.4 - 1.5". Both tires came from a thrift store several years ago and have logged 500+ miles since I got them.

LOVE that Peugeot Hurricane! Looks to be late 80's, early 90's? I had a Peugeot Tundra Express in high school (1987 - 1990) that I dearly loved. It was the black chrome, lower end with Tange 5 plain gauge tubing but man did I ride the wheels off that one!

jbchybridrider 02-21-12 07:54 AM

On mine there Michelin Wild-Run'r 1.1's Also have them in 1.4 and new Ritchey SpeedMax gummys in 1.9 This one's Reynolds 531 All Terrain.
My back's not that great right now and this is by far the most comfortable bike I have.

"Oh" and BikeTiresDirect.com has these tires at good prices.

Whats with the three bottle cages. Down tube underneath looks crooked and would be better suited on my Tassajara. Send it over.

Those looks like 20 in wheels. I thought it was like the schwinn qualifier that had 20 in wheels on a large frame for car park autocross racing.

This was made in the era when mountain bikes were little more than touring bikes with massaged geometry and 26" wheels. Don't know what you're seeing with the crooked down tube; I assure you it isn't. And to get this one out of my hands you'll have to pry it out of my cold, dead fingers.

What you don't see is the pump peg at both the top and the bottom of the seat tube. Never seen that on any bike anywhere else ever:

Funny thing is that link posted to the Peugeot catalog scans call out Tange tubing for the 85 model year; however mine is clearly labelled Ishiwata:

I suspect this happened (and is still happening) quite a bit.....

Loved this bike since I saw it on page 40 or so. Do you find that you're often undergeared when running the stock MTB ratios? I'm running the standard 6-speed on my '88 Fuji Sundance with 1.5" Paselas and sometimes feel like I'm spinning out the tallest gear really quickly. That might change once I start loading it up though.

I usually see it being used as a battery holder for the lights.

I bet that was a workout for the TI-99 4a . I know it would be for mine, as soon as I got the tape recorder and Zenith Console Tv hooked to it.

I remember the sticker on my biopace chainring explaining the whole designed by a computer. I was like, wow, there's nothing like an 8-bit computer to understand knee stresses better than any dumb human ever could!

Between having a U-brake, Tioga T-bone stem and bars, Tioga Farmer John tires, and Biopace chainrings, I figured my 1986 Shogun Prairie Breaker Pro was the cutting edge of MTB tech.

Hey dude my bike has a 13-48 big gear it's plenty for the type of riding I use it for or I would use another bike. I'm planing to do some overnight trail riding in next winter "summer now" and would only change tire's. I sure would like to find a rack for small camping items like on Smokinapankake's bike I like how the standard Pug mounts are used.

I meant the bottle cage under the down tube looks crooked. It might just be the camera angle and the pedal making it appear so. The downtube itself is perfectly fine. Pump pegs are nice feature too I didnt notice them.

Two great recent finds for myself have been a Univega Alpina Ultima, early 80's, and more recently an 86 Specialized Stumpjumper. I work at a shop, and one of my customers brought in not just one, but TWO Gary Fisher "Klunkers". I tried to get him to sell me one for a cool hundred, but he wasn't having any of my lowball offer.

Hilarious! I remember that sound it made when recording, drove the dog crazy.

My Dad thought it was funny as well,
nothing like a couple of hounds
singing along with the TI-99 .
Good Times .

Lugged Unicrown Fork. The Business.

One of those odd duck, but still sorta special things.

My High Sierra has the lugged unicrown fork- and only one pump peg behind the seat tube.

My son's 1990 Trek 930 that I converted to suit him better with commuter tires and a comfy seat.

Do I spy Suntour X-1 components on that Trek?
I always thought the X-1 was cool just because it was all stealth blacked out night ops looking.
