here's my 1988 cannondale m-something-or-other, recently re-built up with all early 90s shimano deore LX/DX and appropriately accessorized for all-purpose use. right now it pulls my 4-year old's burley trailercycle.

My bike, 1986 Schwinn High Sierra. Suntour XC derailers, XT crank & front high flange hub, DX 7 speed cassette hub (upgrade, I think), upside down mustache bars, Nitto Technomic stem.

ha! my god, they're nearly identical, except that your schwinn is steel and my cannondale uses OS aluminum tubing. i'm waiting for a set of panniers to arrive, that will complete it:



i searched high and low for a used burley piccolo, as i'm sure you are aware that they are the only true stoker add-on option out there worth considering. too bad they got discontinued! i finally found one on CL in another state, and had the seller ship it to me.

I did the same thing with my Piccolo. I found it in Atlanta on CL and called in a favor with a friend to have him ship to me. We love ours. That is my oldest son. I've got 2 younger than him as well so I can see it being used heavily for the for next five or so years.

My first Vintage Mountian Bike ( B.R.C. Trekker 1993) it was in a garage for years covered in dust and looked very unused ...i paid 20.00$ for it and all i had to do was clean it and put air in the tires. there is very little info on this mountian bike brand but i was told its a Canadian brand . it has Altus A20 shimano derailler and Altus A10 shifters the body is Cr-mo Tange plain gauge tubing. it rides like a dream.. here are some pics

Just finished.
Well, just made rideable the other day.
It's waiting on a few finishing touches.
Hammered stainless fenders, some nice big ol' chrome fenders, a nicer, chrome U-brake for the rear (The one on there now is the only original piece, Shimano Exage).
Some cream tires around 1.9 or 2 would be perfect too, but most of them seem to be cruiser tires and I don't want anything less than 70 PSI.
Also have a B72 I'm trying to re-leather, and if that works out the scrap leather will go to cover some moustache bars that'll go on there with that seat.

Picked up this beastly Alpinestars Cromega the other day for thin money. Covered in decals and the orange paint in the two-tone scheme is faded where it wasn't covered, but it might clean up nicely. This is the first time I've seen an Alpinestars in the flesh, they're much more common in the UK and Europe as I understand it...

Great looking Cromega, Chris. I know this is irrelevant, but I like how some manufactures ran all three cables in parallel along the top tube. I have a Bianchi Osprey MTB that has all three running on top of the tube.

Regardless, that is a nice bike. Hope to see pictures of it after you clean it up.

Wow... I just picked this up a couple weeks ago. Same bike minus wheels and brakes. I am looking forward to getting it together for my daughter. The GT Timberline is almost finished and ready for CL.

How crazy is that? This is how I acquired mine, one of my neighbors had put it out for bulk trash pickup:



The original brakes were nice Dia Compe units, I was tempted to hang on to them, but in the end I cleaned it up and swapped it for a Centurion Ironman Expert. I like the thumb shifters your has, mine had grip-shifts that just barely worked. I kept the Paramount bottle, it sits on a shelf in the garage alongside an 80s-era Nashbar bottle and a velcro Cannondale bottle.

Updated my 1995 Marin Pine Mountain with some Planet Bike fenders and a new set of Nokia studded snows - just in time for Indian summer.
I used P-clips to mount the front fender and retained the RockShox fork -(It never faded on me last winter, even in sub-zero weather.)

hmm ... Somehow the frame looks tiny in this picture, but actually it's medium-sized, with a 23" TT.

auchen, i have a friend with almost the identical bike... except he has a rigid unicrown fork. he also converted into an xtracycle, and shod with schwalbe fat franks.

Here's my DeKerf Mountain (probably around a '94) that I pressed into cyclocross duty. It's doing a real nice job, and all I want to do to it now is raise the stem a bit so that I can spend some more time in the drops and use it for rides longer than a cross race.

I pulled the larger Biopace chainrings and replaced them with Sugino Round ones. I also swapped the original Biopace 28 with a 26. All of the Deore components are original first Generation XT.

Originally, the bike came with aluminum stem and handlebars, but was replaced with steel ones once I bent the others. Now it's an all 4130 bike.

It's a bit of a hard ride, but works well on the Jersey roads. (Motto: When you have roads like ours, who needs offroad?)

I need to do a tear-down/rebuild this winter and get rid of some rust and clean it up a bit. I have to look into repainting too. It's been pretty beat up over the years. There are a lot of chips, rubbed areas and some surface rust to deal with but all in all fine condition. I'm looking forward to getting several more years of service out of it.

I love that the day I decide to peruse these forums for the first time, is the same day a friend mentions my "work" bike For the record, it did apparently take me a day to register and (hopefully) figure out how to post photos effectively!

Auchen, I still love my Pine Mountain frame and frankly never expected anyone to consider it "vintage!"

Yours is remarkably original, I began monkeying with mine at day one...

I bought mine as a pro deal in the summer of '95 and immediately swapped a few things; suntour xc pro 8 speed thumbies and a Girvin Vector 2 fork were the biggies that I remember.

Its been through a few lives, here are the two most recent:

Single speed w/ Tnt cranks, riser bars, meaty knobbies and a lucky gear ratio



Xtracycle conversion w/ Fat Franks, fenders, cruiser bars and a thumbshifter (Folding stoker bar & footsies not yet installed)



Xtracycle in use w/ my Craigslist found BAW trailer and kayak! Made it comfortably through Harvard Square to the Charles for a beautiful paddle.
